Autopsy Rnd 10 | Euro-Yroke v Richmond

I reckon he does the thing that Brad Hill was doing when he first got to the club - he wants to be a playmaker so he stops and thinks about it and tries fairly tough kicks a bunch of the time. as he settles more and plays more on instinct I think he'll be fine.

I hope you're right.

I was happy to see him spending more time across half back. I don't (currently) see him as the answer in the midfield, which tbh is why I thought we got him.... to be a midfielder.

I'd be really happy to be proven wrong though.

I really don’t get the discourse with Flanders.

Thought he was good again yesterday.

He is still building, but I think he is getting a lot more involved in the right areas for himself.

Season average after 10 games:

24.4 disposals
3.7 tackles
2.3 clearances
3.9 inside 50s
2.3 rebound 50s
5.1 score involvements
1.5 score launches
14 pressure acts per game

If we drafted a pick 7 and they delivered the above. People would be very happy.

Ideally, for me - he gets 4-6 more disposals and adds an extra I50 and R50 and pushes towards 3 clearances.

But I think we see that next season.

Agree, takes a while to meld with a new team. Flanders has got the tools, give him time.

TDK is just getting adjusted to the new surroundings too.

JSOS is the one who has surprised me, honestly love the bloke.
How fun is it to say “well done Silgvani!”?

I watched a replay already knowing the result so got to relax and watch stress free. I thought we had a really even performance with no passengers. I enjoyed it. We cruised along but everyone contributed.

Phillipou looked like the guy we expected him to be, Garcia looks like a young Butters, our battlers played well, we spread the goals around. TDK, Flanders and Silvagni looked like premium recruits.

Not sure why people are so upset by that win. We probably get a touch up over the next few weeks. That was a nice break from the coming pain.
When is Garcia's & Pou's contract up?

just feels very vanilla - on those figures he has no real standout attributes and that's what we see when watching games too I reckon. maybe similar to like an Aldi-brand Zack Merrett or Sam Walsh or Noah Anderson.

so yeah your proposal, up towards 30 touches a game and a few more clearances, inside 50s, etc is his ideal situation.

Now that I have been able sleep on the result, I personally don't understand the overreaction from some. I think many are victims of going into the game expecting a West Coast like margin. Overall, we were never challenged across four quarters.

Despite being flawed at times, if you look at Expected Score, it had us winning that game by around eight goals, which is more than acceptable against a team that still had quality and experience, especially in the back-half.

As I mentioned yesterday, we had a solid list of contributors across all lines. This is promising in the absence of Nas, Owens, Ryan etc. Seems like I am in the minority here, but I was happy with Ryan Byrne's game. Fits our system well.

The next month is going to be incredibly tough, especially without some key players, but you can see how this team could trouble some sides at full strength. However, not sure we'll have enough wiggle room to showcase our best to make finals.

Big fella, we were SECOND in the AFL for converting I50 into scores prior to the Suns game.

Not sure where we sit now but the last two weeks have been okay.

The Suns game we scored 20 times from 45 entries.

Yesterday was 29 scores from 63 entries.
We sit down the list a bit from what I can see.

Flanders is the long-term Sinclair replacement to me. Looks like a real conductor and leader out of the backline. Carroll is Jimmy Webster with potentially more of an attacking game. Just need one more quality small back there, Hastie or Fincher perhaps.

The Vanilla criticism is odd. Not sure he was ever touted as something different?

I remember calling him a B grade Lachie Neale- who can rack up the ball and his role would be to recycle it and bring others into play.

Feel like that’s pretty much what we got - without the huge disposal game just yet.

Monday morning goggles maybe
It was a lacklustre win against a broken down team.

We are miles off it.

That's all we need to do.

In the past these games were danger games because they are hard ones to get the playing group up for.

But yesterday, despite the group being a bit flat, we were absolutely never troubled. That's an improvement from past seasons

I hope you are all starting to see it with LOC. Remember this is his baseline, which is already a solid grounding. He can play a genuine role, is strong, physical quick and has a tidy kick. Compare to Mullin who plays weekly but imo does t do a lot.
Yes and no. I'm seeing some promise and that his skills are improving. He certainly has some attributes but for a wingman he simply doesn’t find enough of the pill. Further development in the VFL and he probably gets there but not sure how long we can continue with those outputs, especially when we come up against the better teams. Wood was dominant in the VFL and hits the scoreboard. Expect he will play this week.

We didn’t have:

Owens
Nas
Ryan
Butler
King

And had Tauru suspended.

My opinion only. But NAS is comfortably our best player.
Owens is our best tall forward and he isn’t even that.
Ryan has been very good value and directly + indirectly he is worth a couple of goals to the side.

Last time the above were all fit, we put a similar side in west coast to the sword.

Butler is next man up at the minute and not available

King - no point discussing. It’s known at this point

It was a game that needed to be won. It was and it was done comfortably with the young brigade standing out (Garcia Pou Wilson) and the 3 recruits really complimenting the likes of Wilkie and Sincs.

I tend to agree but gee he gives the ball a lot of air by foot a fair bit, is it on his non preferred ? Haven't watched closely enough.

I'd love to see those two Irish lads sprinting down a wing when we play the Cats and LOC tackling Mr Sheen after a 50m sprint!

Good to see quite a few moments of gather and quick release through the game, sending other players into space. A good example was the Pou to Hall to Hill to Hugo passage resulting in Hugo streaming inside 50 and banging it through.
Just came up on insta
Very sexy passage of play

Windy had 3x as many clangers, but for some reason we notice Flanders bad efforts more.

Richmond struggled to even fill a team.

Putting all that to one side. The concerning thing about the game on Sunday (if there is such a thing after a win) is that we completely dominated possession and field position against the bottom team (one win and percentage of 60) but mostly looked like our forward line was pretty dysfunctional. I feel like on that performance 14 other teams in the AFL would have beaten us.
