Senior Coach Selection Panel & Selection Process …

Chief Executive Officer Graham Wright and General Manager of Football Chris Davies will lead the process, alongside Blues President Rob Priestley serving as a conduit with the Board. Former Premiership coach Adam Simpson will round out the group, providing valuable external perspective into the contemporary demands of the senior coaching role.

The group will undertake a thorough assessment of all potential coaching candidates, and in consultation with Football Director Greg Williams, will identify a preferred candidate to take to the Board for approval.

Probably don't need a committee to pick a new coach if we go about it this way. Exhaustive interview process, no preconceived thoughts and let GW and CD make the decision.

If you think there won't be at least 1 and probably 2 board members on the selection panel you'll be in for a surprise.

3 of 5 when Voss got appointed.

If you're looking for a reason as to why it ultimately did not work and we wasted a 10 year rebuild - look no further.

Adam Simpson just said on 360, he had a brief discussion with Carlton and he’s politely declined and has ruled himself out for the job.

Interesting they didn’t ask Horse about it, just Simmo.
I’m happy with that.
The only tried coach I’d think about taking is Longmire.

Probably indicates JL has not been asked yet. Simmo being an employee might be a special case.

Longmire will be hard to go past if he is in the pool. Especially for our board who love a big name.

That aside - he's a former premiership coach who was in finals 12 out of 14 seasons so fair enough.

He'd be a massive draw for bringing FAs / trade targets to the club.

Even with a raft of strong first time coaches it would be hard for anyone to say no to JL to be fair.

I read it the other way.

GL started off saying "I won't be asking this question to (Longmire's) side" and then later said something like "plenty of others will be asked about the role" and then Simmo said "not now" and GL said "no not now", aluding to Horse.

Assume Horse is speaking to the club but it is too early to make a comment so asked the show not to ask him or make comment on it.

Could be reading in to it too much but that was my read on the exchange.

That is all more than fair, agree with a good portion of it too

I just think that being optimistic about what you’re seeing unfold atm, and being completely burnt by the last 25 years, are both perfectly valid positions to take

Agreed. Also very possible.

The last time we ran a process is all we've got to go off really.

Until the club announces who is on the selection panel.

If we are looking at former coaches, Horse is probably the only one I feel comfortable with.

Was in the game a long time and the game kept changing and he kept evolving with it.

The game has changed massively in recent times. We need a coach who's vision and plans can evolve at the same speed.

The question is going to be, how well is our new coach in touch with where the game is and how adaptive are they.

One of Voss' biggest issues and from day dot.

Suspect Simpson may have received the same message Josh Fraser did, aka don't apply and we wont brief against you when you say YOU turned US down

I like Adam Simpson, seems like a ripper bloke and seems to view things differently to everyone else. However I couldnt help thinking appointing him would have been a mistake because of the dark period he presided over at WC. As soon the losses outweighed the wins, we would have been saying "what a mistake".

What makes you think they haven't already had a discussion with him? (even before the end of 2025).
I have a feeling there has already been discussions (shortly after Longmire retired) and we are waiting to see what he decides before any public speculation.

I didn’t say that, I thought it was interesting they didn’t ask Horse because I think we are talking to him atm.

The media fall over themsleves to paint the worst possible scenario for the Blues. The say Collingwood sells papers but bloody hell, I reckon negative stories on the Blues sell more.

It was frankly surprising the article in The Age this morning that we came second on that list when compared to West Coast, Richmond and Essendon. Before I even opened the article I though to myself 'I can guartantee they'll have us last'.

I get the same attitude you describe from my group of mates as well. For a few years I've just accepted it but this year I thought we have to start somewhere and started to fight back - particularly the last few week or so. I was getting lectured by Richmond and Essendon supports who have won a handful of games between them in the last 12 months and are fankly shit !

I reckon as a supporter group we need to start to try and be more positive about the club and just not accept 'we are a shitshow'. It's one thing we can have an influence on.
Yes, but being positive for me is 'change', not hoping that the remaining thatches don't blow off of the straw hut.

I have no doubt Wright already has a firm list and is speaking with candidates. He will quickly tighten it up to a couple for in depth interviews

I expect a decision by August at latest. It will allow someone to be part of List Management and other Football decisions and get plan in place for 2027.

Conversations with Cripps Weitering McKay to see where they sit and if they are committed will need to be had

Soapy is this your opinion or something you've heard that is likely to happen?

I've never stopped believing in our players and their potential.
I Believe we have reason to be hopeful.
Couldn't care less about outside noise.
Once we string wins together - a pre season..a few more ins and outs player wise....
Most importantly the right coach and assistants. We don't need to say anything.
Results will change perception.
Just smile and get the next round for your mates.
Remain calm and confident.😉💙

Very positive news that Simpson has ruled himself out. 👍
Would like to see that superb handballer, the other Simpson, put his had up as an assistant for us.
