I disagree on that last point. Collingwood is the only traditional Vic team that will willingly wear their clash jumper at any opportunity. They’ve been doing it since 2007. It’s a tired old trope that they aren’t willing to wear a clash strip compared to other Vic teams

I would argue an away is worn by default in away games (e.g. Adelaide, North Melb 2000s) whereas the clash is worn only by necessity

Back in the no-sponsors FJ.com era I would agree, but now I would argue it’s no different to a home jumper with a GF patch on it, which is deemed worthy of inclusion. It seems conspicuous by its absence more than anything

List Records & Bests - Most Consecutive Losses (ex-fp discussion)

Of the other big Victorian streaks documented in this December 2023 Herald Sun article: Maryborough in the Bendigo FNL are up to 52 games without a win. They got within 55 pts of Kangaroo Flat in Round 2 but were belted by Gisborne and then Sandhurst in the following two rounds by a combined...

List Records & Bests - Most Consecutive Losses (ex-fp discussion)

The Western Rams (formerly Rockbank) are currently 77 games without a win, which is now quite comfortably the longest streak in Victoria. Since their move from the Riddell District FNL to the Western FNL in 2024, they've been showing some promising signs – three scores of 78 and above is...

Portarlington (Vic, 2018–2023) broke a 68-game losing streak earlier this year. https://geelongindy.com.au/sport/03-04-2024/port-breaks-68-game-losing-drought/ And while it doesn't fit in the exact criteria of this thread, they broke another remarkable losing streak the following week, having...

It actually wouldn't have been that much of an issue if the yellow was that colour. Problem is is that it's much lighter and brighter, which really doesn't help the contrast

Yeah, it looks fine up close, but pretty ordinary from a distance. Another example of a designer not considering aesthetics outside of a computer screen.

Bloody hell, this is phenomenal! Thank you! Between this and the 'primary source' of the SportingPulse MHTML files, it looks like we have Victorian country footy since 2009 well and truly covered. EDIT: Looks like a slight bit of 'local knowledge' is required to determine who is the home team...

It's hard to make out, but he appears to collect his little dinky (almost fresh-airy) kick before it passes over the behind line. Would this not then negate the acceptance of the kick as a kick, as A) it didn't go past 10 metres, the required distance at the time, and B) it was gathered by the...

There are a few outlier leagues like AFL Sydney that go back to circa 2002 But I’d say otherwise mostly around 2009 It’s not early archival stuff, but it’s important nonetheless

    Remember the Club (Hammerheads)?

There's a heap of interesting info on the concept in the Western Region Football League history publication circa 2007. Read on below for more! The year 2002 was a year to buckle in and get set for the ride of your life; it was the year the WRFL went showbiz with the introduction of the...

    Discussion Worst ever jumper clashes

Any of the rugby sports or even American football are poor comparison points. Teams don't 'overlap'. It's pretty easy to figure out who's who, unless it's a scrum situation (do they even do them anymore?)

Was doing a little bit of research on the former Lake Tyers Aboriginal football club and found this fascinating tale of their unfortunate demise, where they were controversially expelled from the East Gippsland FL ahead of the 1998 season. Have just finished off a fairly big project which is less about historical research and more about trying to archive what we currently have online. I've dubbed it "Saving SportingPulse". As we know, the AFL has pushed the (inferior) PlayHQ product on to all leagues from 2022 onwards, with I...

Discussion Sir Doug Nicholls Round 2024 (Rds 10 & 11): Photos and Discussion

The bold yellow really does look so much better than those mustard abominations from the BLK era. However I’d actually prefer something more in the middle – a bit like the colour of the blocks that the guernseys are resting on.

That’s fine and it’s fairly obvious it’s not done by a designer but that doesn’t stop you from knowing how to centre something. Even PowerPoint automatically aligns stuff these days. It costs more money to reprint apparel/signage/merchandise than it does to just get it right the first time...
