Definitely go to statue of liberty and ellis island. i've been twice and enjoyed it both times (second time got into the crown). Staten Island ferry wont give you much of a view, you really need to get up close. I would recommend getting there on the first trip of the day so it is not crowded.

Choose one coast and do it well rather than trying to fit in too much. EAST: I would spend them in Washington DC (3-4 days), Philly (2-3days), NYC (6-7 days) and Boston (3-4days). Any spare time use up in Niagara Falls, Chicago or wherever your flight leaves from. WEST: Hire a car and visit...

Not really an issue to walk between the American and Canadian Falls. Takes no time at all to get through. Buffalo is a hole and I would strongly recommend staying at Niagara Falls itself (or Toronto). There is also a local bus that runs direct between Niagara Falls (US side) and Buffalo...

I've plugged this website before but it has every road trip imaginable in pretty good detail. http://www.autotoursusa.com/en/ I recommend the Panoramic West roadtrip which takes in LA, San Diego, Yuma, Phoenix, Sedona, Flagstaff, Grand Canyon, Monumnet Valley, Bryce Canyon, Zion, Lake Powell...

It is one of the most famous landmarks in the world. Do yourself a favour and go have a close look. If you were in Paris would you not climb the Eiffel Tower? If you were in Beijing would you not walk on the Great Wall? I have been there twice (once to the island and the second time into...

I reckon this website has pretty much every road trip covered: www.autotoursusa.com/en/ Just look for New England, East, South and Florida and match them up to your interests. I would want to spend at least 4 weeks doing that trip.

Those cities are a fair distance apart, especially the west to NO, NY and Miami, so if you fly between them there is a lot of airport time. In 30 days with those cities I would: Fly to NY for 7-8 days. Fly to Miami for 4 days Fly to NO for 3 days. Fly to LA. Hire a car and spend 15 days on...

NBA starts on Christmas Day, so you should see a real game not preseason rubbish. 1. The official cruise for Alcatraz was listed above. 2. I've done the crown and it was great. It is closed for repairs at the moment though. Liberty and Ellis are still worth visiting, in fact, you must...

You could spend two days just walking around the city marvelling at the architecture on Michigan Avenue. Tribune Tower, Wrigley Building, Hancock Tower and Sears Tower to name a few from memory. Go to a blues club. Eat a Chicago deepdish pizza. Go to the iconic Soldier or Wrigley Fields...

I would seriously reconsider that Contiki tour. I reckon some of the best parts of California and Nevada (and southern Utah and Northern Arizona) are visited by car. By flying between LA and SF, you miss the great Pacific Highway. By flying SF to LV, you miss Yosemite and Death Valley. The...

I have always used covermore, but I have a relative at a travel agency who doesnt charge me commission (40-50%). I have made a few claims and they are excellent to deal with. Insurance is a must. You would not believe how much it costs to see a doctor in the US.

Most definitely recommended. Been to Europe, USA and China by myself in my mid 20s. It will force you to meet people and get you out of your comfort zone - especially in non English speaking countries. You can do what you want, whenever you want. This means you dont waste any time. Gets a...

I would recommend hiring a car for the west. Transport isnt that flash and there are some big distances to travel. You really need a car in LA. From memory it cost me less than $1000 for a month (including petrol, insurance and an exchange rate of 0.75). In 2007, I did a massive roadtrip...
