I agree completely. I'd also add that we have players standing in the line that look like they are trying to get in each others way.

Unfortunately each ref seems to bring their own technicalities to the breakdown.
Consistently needs to be found, and sadly we see such inconsistency in one game, let alone across a tournament.
Carter didn't make it look too difficult with his success rate tonight.
Regardless, the obvious argument to your point is to suggest that crossing the line is a far more difficult skill, so it is less about reducing the reward for kicking, and more about increasing the reward for scoring a try.
IRB badly need to decrease the value of kicks.
Reward tries more than milking penalties given by refs that just want to be in the spotlight, and drop goals that should just be the icing on the cake.
I miss the days where the aim was running the ball over the line. The over officiating and scoring from kicks has sucked so much of the running game from what we once saw.
As long as he is consistent.
There are so many tackles in a game that are as "late" as that. Could be a lot of penalties called now the precedent had been set.
