    All things Tablet

I’ve got one, was so glad to get rid of my iPad, hated that thing from the day I got it. I love the surface because it lets me get real stuff done. It’s not just a toy (which is what I think of the iPad), but there is no way it is a full blown laptop. It does not run standard windows...

Significantly different from the Developer Preview, much more mouse friendly. Will take some time to figure out all the new bits.

Really, it's been totally solid for me. Had to think about the power thing because I've only ever used it maybe twice in the whole time I've had the OS. It is a different release model because they are introducing a new app model and they needed to push out a version for developers to start...

Sounds like you are talking about windows mobile not WP7. WP7 does the non tech stuff really beautifully.

Generally I agree with you. Just as I said at the start it is going to be really fascinating to see how it rolls. Totally disagree with you on one point. I own and use both iOS Android and WP7 daily. WP7 totally smokes iOS in terms of user experience. WP7 is an absolute joy to use iOS...

Because their apps will work both on x86 windows 8 systems and also the second largest mobile platform. I was talking about apps not applications; the article has the nomenclature wrong. You are way, way off the mark here. You are saying that the only niche MS have is in the...

Because they weren't really trying. MS make a huge number of products, not everyone is a massive hit. The core products Office, Windows, Xbox & Kinect kinda do okay. Apple had a long history of unsuccessful products, why didn't this continue? Apps will be 100% compatible on both...

Because the same OS will run on both devices. Well actually the same device will be able to be both a tablet and a desktop. So there is likely to be big crossover. When you buy your next PC why not get the one that is your tablet too? More analysts than you can poke a stick at are saying...

    Windows 8

It’s all relative, Vista did very, very poorly and yet it alone has outsold all iOS devices by a considerable margin. Windows 7 has sold about twice as much as Vista. If 8 sells somewhere in between those 2 it is still going to be a big player.

    Windows 8

Yeah it is going to be fascinating to see how it goes. People could just kinda shun it or it could be absolutely massive.

    Windows 8

Yeah very much so. Win 8 on the desktop and on ARM, Xbox, SkyDrive, the Nokia’s are absolutely superb by all accounts. All the different pieces are starting to come together. The whole ecosystem is going to be enormous.

I’ve been running it on my mane system since it came out. The start menu is very different but the rest of it is very similar. The start menu takes a bit of getting used to, but you do. It’s not feature complete though so you miss a lot of the benefits of actually having the new start menu...

Sure you never visit www.bigbooby.com The only thing I really miss about Firefox is actually the Google toolbar. It gave you the awesome highlight and search buttons, so you could type in a search term to Google it and then once you had found a page you could then just click on the same...

Invites seem to be much easier to get now. It's not very intuitive at first. The circles have a lot of implications you don't deal with so much in other platforms. Takes a while to get your head around them.

$199 for 80G, it was actually cheaper than some of the Intel SSDs I saw, but prolly about $50 more than a standard SSD. It's probably about twice as fast as a standard SSD. For me, if I was going to get one I thought for the few dollars extra it offered the best bang for buck.

Took my own advice and picked up a RevoDrive pci-e SDD http://www.ocztechnology.com/ocz-revodrive-pci-express-ssd.html Man that badboy is super-fast. For someone like me who typically has loads of apps and/or tabs open it really rocks.

You can get a good 60G SSD for around $130. SSDs are particularly good if you are in a (relatively) low memory situation because the disk caching is so much faster. If you are swapping between lots of different programs or tabs an SSD would be a good option. But like you say it depends on...
