To me it's more of an issue for Perth than it is for the MCG. Yes there can be an atmosphere in that ground (I've been there for 50k+ crowds pre Covid), but the reason for the high rating I've always maintained is that nothing like this had ever been built in Perth.
What gives the MCG the aura...
Kickett by my count would have played under
Rod Austin
Mick Malthouse
Ken Sheldon
Kevin Sheedy
Gerard Neesham
Damian Drum
Ben Allan
Chris Connolly
And that doesn't include any State of Origin coahes he had playing for WA.
McCartney was useless, employing the Frank Farina type sieve defence particularly on transition from a turnover. The number of times in his era where we got easily scored against on turnover coast to coast was embarrassing. They said he was a teacher but it seemed he couldn't teach team defence...
I can empathise with those doing multiple games each weekend, perhaps fortunate in the knowledge that most leagues in footy states only have 3 games on a single game day. Up here in CQ we have to find officials for 6 matches most game days (occasionally there'll be a forfeit or a match gets...

HEADLINES (well more like stories than headlines so make them up from these if you must)
(1) Eagles and Dockers forced to move to Tassie thanks to Mark McGowan's idolisation of Jacinda Ardern's...
If forced to support another team, Suns provided they remain a GC team or NT if they come in. If not forced or if Suns elsewhere then off to the NRL I go.
Where do we begin? I've been to many Suns games as a neutral, wandered into a couple of Lions Saturday afternoon clashes, done a couple of Perth and GWS games, any number of Easter weekend games including Richmond vs Sydney this year. Heck I've even watched semis (Giants vs Eagles 2017) and the...
It's actually a worldwide thing following trends of America where they need to oversize stadiums in order to appease cities to pay for professional Big 4 sporting teams (MLS is not considered big 4, but are the counter argument). Australia however have their supersizing in order not to fit the...
As I've said on socials if you're going to revamp a song why employ the Australian equivalent of Nickelback to do it? I mean didn't they learn from about 8 years ago when their cross town rival had a vote to revamp their song, and cutting out 90 seconds of Freo Heave Ho's was preferable to a...
So I've had a crack at selecting these teams which probably won't end up anything like what they'll be. Had difficulty fulfilling the criteria for some teams to provide so many players for a particular squad's initial 72 (Eagles, Suns, Hawks and Dockers for Victoria, Port and Melbourne for All...
In reality it would be a job overseas where game access and broadband availability (as opposed to speeds) is virtually non-existent, or if Telstra suddenly charged data costs for streaming games against those connected to their mobile network (if there is a change in streaming providers to say...
2010: Goddard's grab, Hayes and Goddard almost dual handedly dragging the Saints over the line, the flooding of the dressing rooms post match, another Collingwood premiership win in October (with the reworking of One Day in September to suit)
2011: Meatloaf, Varcoe kicking the first goal in 30...
1. Will any team score 200+ in a game? NO
2. Will any team be held goalless in a game? Not in the men's, outside chance in AFLW in the first few years
3. Will any player kick 100+ goals in a season? NO, and 50 will be a struggle in 4-5 years
4. Will any player kick 12+ goals in a game? NO
5...
The umpires (from AFL and AFLW level, state leagues and elite underage competitions) will take a stand over online abuse and walk off the job for a week, leaving replacements sourced from metropolitan and amateur ranks to fill the void and perform like the replacement NFL referees did...
The fact that they couldn't guarantee coverage at a reasonable hour of big games in the important markets (Sydney being most important to advertisers) couldn't have helped regardless of controversy.
First game was in the Under 17s in 1999, recently made senior (combined A-Grade and Reserve Grade) appearance number 246. Usually these days anchor the defence. Representative whose I made the Capricornia Under 16 side in 2000 basically by default, such were the numbers in the region.
Was...
I guess the biggest issue is the field orientation. This was only the second time (an A-League derby being the first) where the O'Reilly stand was behind the goals rather than on a wing. I'm not sure those areas of the ground have ever had such loading go through it.
Unfortunately 2/3 of them are corporates which Concord can't cater for, and TV times are locked in for the NZ and RSA audiences so moving games is problematic.
They probably had the 2 best defensive units of the day.
EAGLES: Worsfold, McIntosh (who was forward this game), McKenna, Hart, Jakovich, Turnbull (when not rucking)/Gehrig (who played more back in those days, Jason Ball was used as the key forward)
BLUES: McKay, Silvagni, Christou, Dean...
