Chris Masten

Born on the 2nd of May in 1989. Chris stands at 180 cm and weighs 77 kg.

Chris was taken at pick 3 in the 2007 national draft and recruited from East Fremantle. He is a genuine in and under midfielder with fantastic endurance and deceptive pace. He uses the ball well and actually has a pretty big kick on him. He wins heaps of the ball in tight and is fantastic in and around the stoppages where he uses his quick hands to great effect. Chris doesn't only rack up disposals he accumulates a clearances and tackles too.

In 2008 he played just 9 games as his season was cut short due to OP issues. He debuted against Adelaide in round 2 where he racked up 11 disposals, 3 marks and 2 tackles. Later in the season we saw glimpses of brilliance from Masten, in round 8 he recieved his first 2 brownlow votes coming off a 21 possession game against North Melbourne. Later in the season against Essendon, he picked up 11 disposals in the first quarter and 8 tackles in the first half but his game time was cut short due to OP problems.

In 2008 Masten averaged:

15.1 disposals a game
4.3 marks a game
4.6 tackles a game
and 2.3 I50's a game

Masten is getting bigger and he will only get better as he gets more accustom to the speed and the level required at the AFL.

He had/has OP and had surgery late mid-late 2008, he isn't back to training a full pace yet.

Well, we both think we have chosen the better player this year and at the end of the year we'll let the users on here decide who did better and the loser will be scarred for life knowing that they stuffed up the 08 draft.

He did start it though.

Why do you want a smoothbore howitzer "beatlesmith" ? Less accurate and has less range than a rifled fieldgun !

“Chris (Masten) has been outstanding with his work ethic and Brad Ebert, who is obviously a little further behind, is still looking very promising, he's been very diligent with his rehab process. Those two boys are going very well."

Highly-rated youngster Chris Masten endured a frustrating start to his AFL career with groin surgery ending his 2008 campaign last July. But the No.3 draft pick has bounced back superbly, defying a modified pre-season program to run second in a recent 2km time trial (6m 25sec.) – while also gaining plenty of upper-body strength.
