Roys FFC Club History:

From the book of Mobbs (written a few years ago)

The Roys were formed from a social qootyball team known as the Rabbledom Of Imbibers or the R.O.I. - an anti-temperance society centred around the inner western suburbs of Sweet Municipality. In the lead-up to the formation of the new Sweet FA premier competition in town, a name change saw the Roys FFC formed, under the tutelage of veteran Gorilla Roylion . After a fair start to proceedings in Season 03, we tasted success in Season 04 with our first premiership.

Following this initial success, a long drought ensued. Like our namesake, we were even lost from the league for a couple of seasons (S09 and S10) before returning in a blaze of mediocrity in Season 11. While we couldn't put points on the board, the Roys did make waves through a majestically strong activity presence around the community. Since this return, the mighty Gorilla has been synonymous with top-shelf banter and prize-winning content.

A year ago (2 years in local time) in Season 25 the premiership cup finally came home to the Brunswick Junction Oval, under the supervision of the lovable and long-suffering enduring captain fitzroybowiedog ! This pushed us into the Top 4, the only teams with multiple flags, and closed out the era of this being noteworthy as only terrible teams have since entered this realm thereafter.

Our last two seasons have been ... well as a promotional piece it may be better if we don't speak of the last two seasons. Yet despite the low results, the Roys have continued to be a leading performer in activity, including a #1 ranking in the Activity Assessment in S27 as conducted by the league's current Administrator.

This season, the league's 28th, will be our season ... just as almost all the previous ones were going to be but ended up not being. We have a fresh list (lies), an optimistic outlook (more lies) and are an unbelievably good-looking bunch of players (truth, actually). Who could resist us? Maybe some magnets and stuff. BUT APART FROM THAT?

Over the seasons many big names have come through the Roys team. The game's founder Mobbs was an inaugural player, as was one of the greatest celebrities of the competition: Broken . The Sweet FA's most adored cranky moderator Fred was synonymous with the Roys, until it was time for him to exit both worlds, both fantasy and real. Early leader Yippyio kicked over 100 goals one season, and the irrepressible Reardo was an early EKA medal winner, followed soon after by pantskyle who has gone on to have a major impact around various clubs, and then by Willo_ who sadly has retired until we can wear him down. fitzroybowiedog continues to flounder under a barrage of underwear whenever he appears on stage. Freakie and Mooch are league level award winners, as was Blondie162 in the very early days. Itsmyshow who has a broad presence around the competition to this day, played a strong hand in the Gorillas' resurgence in Season 11.

Awards History:

Roys had recognition only for a captain, and a leading goalkicker as a regular status, until after their period of recess. Even the B&F was only awarded sporadically with many missed seasons, for which of each I held distinct retrospective counts at a much later time.

In Season 12, one season after returning from recess, the Roys decided to add a Life Membership award. A season later (S13), we added a small raft of new awards : Most Consistent, Best New Player, Most Improved and Spammiest players. All were based on purely onfield achievements except for the Spamming and the Life Membership, which included off-field recognitions. The Spammiest award was supposed to be an insult - we sometimes had to sit people down in PM's and request they stop posting so much. (Ex-player Wonaeamirri33 quit the Roys potentially because we looked down upon pure spamgifery post after post.) These awards were all named after their function, although when IMS won the spammiest award, his name stuck to that "accolade".

The next season (S14) it was decided also to name the other awards after their winners for that year. The winners from their inaugural seasons did not get their names used, instead it was the winners from that 2nd season of the awards' operation.

royboy2 was voted the most consistent, and so that award was named after him (as opposed to being named after 3KZ, who won it in S13). PTizzle as winner of the best new player award got immortalised via that naming (bigbunyip won it the season before), and flea29 having been awarded most consistent player got the name of that award (3KZ and Secular Bicep shared that award in S13). The Spammiest Player award already had IMS' name on it. The Life Membership to this day is still called just the Life Membership.

I don't have season by season stats for flea29 but here as his career-length stats. He was also our leading goalkicker in S06. Might be cool to see them actually, just for my own curiosity.

Flea29 posted 10 times between S06 and S16, appearing in 4 match threads out of a possible 9 seasons' worth. He posted 1 time in the season where he won the award, and had the award named after him.

The previous season, during which an award existed but was unnamed, 3KZ is Football (46 posts) and Secular Bicep (13 posts) shared that award.

The Good Ol' Roys is first recorded as having been issued in S15.

An oh so close year last year, just one match too far for us - but a fantastically fun year from everyone. This year we welcome Ed_Gein back from a break and he was a great contributor while not playing - so watch out for him this year.

The Barrels Award:

Each week, the Roys vote on the best opposition player, in terms of entertainment, humour, banter and impact. It's not based upon spam rates, it's based upon quality. It is, the original and the best - best posting award in the Sweet FA.

The weekly winner gets this to either keep, or share amongst their teammates.

The Baggy 'Rilla


Every Roy player will be retrospectively given a Baggy 'rilla which will have their own unique number representing where their debut featured in the annals of Roys players past and present.

In the case where players debuted in the same game alphabetical order is given preference.
