Admittedly it's not great, but can we really compare '09 and '10?

Why cant we? 2010 was hardwicks first year so it is relevant, last year to use his words, their season started at round 11 so by that admission we should be on a steady improve, It isnt shown by the results since round 11 2010 or even round 1 2009 for that matter.

Im not stoked with this year, but Hardwick's tenure as a new coach is extremely different from almost all new coaches. He inherited absolute garbage, an absolute garbage list with old hacks and young hacks alike. He's turned over as many players as humanly possible in this time.....when Scott took over at North he still had the likes of Firrito, Petrie, Harvery, McIntosh and Swallow. A core group of senior players...we had Newman.

We're so far behind its not funny, to be sniping at the coach is not what we need right now. If this time next year the results are the same then I'd say Hardwick is in massive trouble...until then we just have to weather the storm and stay the course.

Hardwick is building a strong list but has a bit more work to do. We've got some really good tall forwards, backs and a bunch of strong midfielders to work with. We're coming up to the 3rd step of the journey. We should be willing to lose picks between the 2nd and 4th Round to gain 1 or 2 young ruckman such as Zac Clarke and Shawn Hampson. Keep our first pick for a midfielder. We'd see a huge difference in our performances if we can get 1 or 2 of these type of ruckman. Our midfield will be better next year anyway if they stay injury free of course. Martin, Cotchin, Foley and Conca will take another step up in fitness and we'll add another ready made 18 year old midfielder later this year. We'll probably clean out another 8-10 players

i think hardwick has done well so far. even if the wins may not improve the improvement in % means that we are becoming more competitive. we've only had a handful of maulings where in previous years we probably wouldve had twice as many. also he has cleared out a lot of deadwood and started to actually build a spine almost from scratch, which i think is looking very promising but obviously still young and green. previous rebuilds have tried the patch up job particularly up forward. i think with hardwick however the only real patch up recruit has been miller, but i think he was very important for learning a correct structure.

ummmm Tuck, newman, simmonds, cousins, Foley, deledio Tambling

just off the top of my head and who brought scott and norf into this one?

We all knew it was going to take time, especially with the concessions handed to GC & GWS.
But no excuse in not tackling smothering or running to help a teamate.
Plus its important to hit with draft picks

Scott was also a new coach taking over a developing list, so makes for reasonable comparison. Out of the names you listed, 2 were on the way out, Foley was injured all year, and Tambling wasn't taking games apart, or doing anything for that matter. Brad Scott got to keep all of his. Hardly a fair comparison.

How many other young sides are improving steadily, even coming from way better positions than us and having a good 12 months head start? Melbourne? Up and down like a yo-yo. Gold Coast? Hardly. North are probably doing the best, it's no coincedence that they had the best core group of experienced players.

I did....its a very good comparison between North's success and the lack of ours under Dimma. For starters, Simmonds was washed up in 2008, Cousins was never RFC leadership material, Foley wasn't even playing last year and had missed 2 years of footy and Tambling is an absolute spud who Hardwick had to try for 1 more year. As for Tuck and Deledio, Tuck is obviously not in the future plans albeit I would have played him more this year, but Im not an AFL coach, Deledio is holding up his end of the bargain in most games. It must be pretty damn hard to be the best player in a very bad team, not even Ablett could carry this side.

I expect a marked improvement next year after another preseason into our young up and comers.

My question to you is, what are you actually after in this thread? Sack Hardwick or just a massive gripe about our current situation? Neither is going to help us right now, a bit of trust and faith in the current process is required...its the first time in 30 years that the club has had proper plans, structures, investment. Is that a guarantee for success? Nope, but do we just roll over?
