Non-contact for another week but otherwise has a full training load.

ā€œHurls had a shoulder reconstruction and he’s really at the end of his rehabilitation phase. He’s been training essentially fully with the group except for contact,ā€ Rundle said on Tuesday.

ā€œHe’s at the end of his contact progressions now and should be integrating fully with the group within the next week or so.ā€

And back in the leadership group too.

I have to lol. Last season we were happy he bulked up 5 kilo's, now we're happy he's lost that? I think he's lost a little too much, I would prefer him to have lost 2-3 kilos instead

I thought he was too big last year - A few of the players were too big - or got big too quickly.

Pleasing to see Davis come 4th in the time trial - Gives him a base to spend time in the midfield.

wooooooooooooooooooooooosh

Muscle tissue weighs more than fat.

He may have been fatter before, but that's what comes with bulking (eating more calories than calories burned to facilitate muscle growth) - he has obviously been on a cut (eating on a calorie deficit; expending more calories than taking in) hence, the body fat % lowering. He has managed to shred off the fat and keep a good amount of the muscle he gained on the bulk last year.

Muscle and fat are two separate and distinct properties, the weight he is depends on whether it is the muscle or the fat - just because someone is 100kg does not mean a big chunk of it is lean muscle mass, when in actual fact, a majority of it could be pure body fat (which is useless).

Dont mind that weight cut with the change in roles. Hes now a CHF not a FF. I think the club expects him to do alot of work up the field and to be able to push deep when the side is on the ropes (hopefully not often). He could be the Nick Riewoldt 2008 style and burn guys back running to goal instead of having to be a leadup only 30m out and missing footys over his head.

I think with his size he could be a great defender no doubt and annihilate N.Riewoldt, Franklin types but still think our forward line becomes way to vulnerable if we take him away just now.

What would you say is an appropriate number?

I don't know...a couple a year maybe. Anyway, you're not the only one around here that gets a little bit too excited about the pre-season shape of the player's bodies.

Don't be worried though. I'm sure you're no homo (not that there's anything wrong with that)..;)...NHW*

This weight loss will be good news for the champs legs too. Reducing the risk of any more injuries you'd think.

*no homo wink

I hope so. It is a great weapon to have. This whole settle down at one end really undersells the amount of work they put into their games and their intelligence. I see it like telling a kid they have to either learn to talk or count!!

We have a fairly high quality suite of talls but there is every chance that Gumby will never get his body right, there is also a chance that Hooker and/or Pears wont come on. Carlise and Hurley can genuinely play at each end of the ground and it seems crazy that we should inflexibly commit either of them to either end of the ground. We set the team up in the way that gives us the best chance to beat a particular team and also show some flexibility on game day. So for example if we play against Collingwood and their midfield is dominating and Hooker is struggling to deal with Cloke, so why not swing Hurley back for 15 min to buy the coaches time to rejig the midfield and get that on an even keel, or even hope that it is a matter of the pies coming out swinging and we can just hold on while they punch themselves out, and once we're ready to rock and our midfield is gettin on top swing him forward!!

A friend of mine who's sun played TAC cup with him told me that Hurley was primarily a forward in that level and spent time down back just for development. It is just that for the state side they had enough forwards and he played back, and did very well for himself.

Yes he may do a better job in defense but I think this is only a reflection on the fact that creating is always harder than destroying. Learning to play forward will take longer because he has to learn positioning that will make it easier for mids to deliver to him and he'll learn how to balance between supporting his fellow forwards and getting out of their way. Regards defending all he has to do is learn how to blanket a particular player.

Let him develop as a forward because he'll always be able to go to defense and try to blanket a particular opponent. Also our potential KPFs, counting Crameri as a 3rd tall, are Gumby, Daniher and Carlisle. They are all long rangy types and not the powerhouse we need to be central to the forward set up.

Hurley has said he played back most of his junior career at full back with the occasional stints forward, and when he went forward he had a few games where he got bags of 5 and 6 goals.

Played a cricket game at Glen Iris CC in a charity event today. First ball of the second innings, facing Dale Thomas, goes bang and hits him onto then nets. (a good 70 metre hit)

Daniher should fill out and become the powerhouse forward we crave, but that's a way off. May have to play forward 'til JD develops.
