Im in melbourne so its a few hours ahead,
but just watching the doco that was previewed on the footy show on thursday in regards to dermie and chris lewis.

Makes our club looks absolutely professional.

Theres a section on mainy that is absolutely tearjerking and the past players such as McKenna, Jacko, Suma, Woosh, Money and even Turley reinforce what great people we had at the club and that are still involved in footy.

The Hawthorn players they interview come off looking like fking clowns.

A must watch

I thought it was excellent.

Every Eagles supporter should see that.

Very balanced, a great mix of Eagles and Hawks giving their views. All the big names involved on the day. FWIW, Eagles who took part:

Malthouse
Worsfold
Jakovich
Brennan
McKenna
Watters
Turley
Lewis

Gave a great insight into that era, the change over to a national competition, the end of Hawthorns golden years, the start of ours.

We lost the game obviously but I think it's still a crucial moment for the club and part of our great history.

Having stories like that is what makes us a great club.

On a side note, I thought it was fasinating to hear Alan Joyce talk about the pressures of coaching that team and how he still wakes up a couple of times a week dreaming of football (and he hates it).

I watched and loved it. I'm to young to rememeber the 1991 season and grand final (was only 4 at the time) but i found it really fascinating. Never even knew how dominant we were in the 1991 season leading up to that GF.

Few memorable things that i'll take it out
The section on Mainy's influence not just in the game but how 4 years later his unfortunate passing still stirs the emotions of former players, coaches and fans

Racial vilification of Chris Lewis and his subsequent reports for retaliating :thumbsd:

That loss in 1991 was a definate motivation for 1992 and 1994 :thumbsu:

Was a fascinating documentary of two great clubs. One at the end of an era of unprecedented dominance and one about to start its own era. Some cultural similarities in our clubs I reckon, with the absolute rejection of mediocrity and expectation of success.

Lets hope our clubs forge another chapter in this story in 2 weeks time.

Very similar to what I was about to post. It looked like Brereton was genuine about being sorry about Lewis. And the pain still in Lewis's face over the things that happened over his footy career was easily seen. Ditto for McKenna (and even Malthouse) when speaking about Mainwairing.

Thought it was magnificent viewing. Fair and balanced, brought back some deep seeded memories buried deep in my subconscious. Great to watch though, man those Hawks were a hardened and lethal combination back then. Maybe next year we'll see the 1992 final story.

I remember thinking at the time at how it would have been a bit nicer to play our first Grand Final against someone other than one of the most seasoned GF teams in history having one last tilt. Their eighth GF in nine years. Plus us buggering up that first final certainly didn't help, as a year of dominance was effectively blown right there. And for whatever reason, I personally felt that that loss was harder to take than the one in '05.

Batmobile footage was solid gold though.

As Scott Watters eluded to, while it hurt a lot at the time, playing and losing to Hawthorn in that GF was probably a good education for the club, made them tougher, and helped mold the club into what it is today.

I went over for the '91 and '92 GFs, and I can tell you one thing, in 1991 it wasn't a welcoming environment for Eagle supporters. The Vics certainly weren't ready for the cup to leave their State. Attitudes mellowed a lot over the next 12 months though.

You took it out on the wrong team!:( I just hope that this doco will make it abundantly clear that it is Hawthorn who you must kick square in the nuts. Repeatedly, and at every opportunity.:thumbsu:

OK, we'll beat them in the GF this year for you then. :p

"it changed the landmark of Australian Football"

Glen Jackovich

I agree with that in more ways in one.

3 significant things happened around this period.

1. Hawks had their period of dominance while West Coasts era was starting.

2. After West Coast did win the Flag in 1992, they were the 1st non-victorian team to do it. It showed that it was a truly National competition.

3. 1991 there were only 4 "non victorian" teams in West Coast, Sydney, Brisbane Bears and the New team in Adelaide Crows. 20 years later theres 8 teams now.

That would be landscape though, not landmark.

for future reference an easy way to download youtube videos is to get a program called jdownloader.

Once it is installed, all you have to do is "highlight + right click + copy" the youtube link and Jdownloader's linkgrabber feature will automatically show a number of links for you to download in its window. I usually get the mp4 format.

anyways..... here are some megaupload links for the downloaded youtube files (wait till countdown finishes then click on regular download)

I'm not sure what formats your tv can play (if at all) but if it has a vga port or a hdmi port and you have a laptop with vga out or hdmi out... you can hook your computer up with a cable.

Thanks a million midorigreenwood appreciate your help works a treat on my Pioneer Kuro as its supports that format :thumbsu:
