...worried. The next 3-4 years may be our most crucial. A very very bad time to be a bottom 4 club with the new teams coming in, especially with all the concessions they look like they're going to get.

Just when we finally need top picks they get rid of old priority rule and now two teams no one gives a stuff about!! With all their concessions such as salary cap, possible list of 55, access to out of contract players, 2 years of top draft picks, it's going to put the lower weaker clubs years behind.

And on top of that now that it looks like Eagles and Freo will be down the bottom in the next few years, i'm concerned with all our young West Australians , that some could get homesick and find their way home easier with less bargaining power for us.

Isnt that just the plan? I doudt any team will agree to those concessions.

Well what happened at the AFL meeting last month with all the clubs where the AFL explained how those clubs would be created/built. Surely some of these concessions would have been discussed. Most clubs seemed agreeable to what was presented.

AFL will pull out all stops to make this succeed. It's crucial the clubs don't bend over. It has disaster written all over it.

We need to be meticulous with our drafting over the next two years, yes.
The new clubs need to be competitive straight away, this means the draft picks concessions they will recieve (8 picks in first round) will be up for offer. They will trade many of them, so an astute club could be able to capatilise on this, like we did to get Lloyd. Our best drafting has come in the last three or so years, add to that two more years of intelligent picks, we should be fine.
Our WA talent will not be just let to walk out the door, suitable compensation woould be chased, be it draft picks or trades.

Don't go getting your panties in a bunch yet folks, ther is plenty of water to pass under the bridge. If we have not gotten a decent side recruited by 2010, then we deserve to be in trouble.

I believe the proirity pick rule was changed a couple of years ago, when we first needed it. We got our priority pick after the first round of drafting, not before. So if we need it, we are being screwed a second time by it.
Carlton got their "special" priority pick for sucking 3 years straight, bastards. We have missed the boat on high priority picks. Unlike St Kilda, Hawthorn, Collingwood who are now reaping the benifits of the old system.

Exactly. They'll continue to reap from those picks for the next 10 years.
Only other team to have had no priority picks in the top 5 was Cats but they made up for it through father/son.
Nothing against Jetta (our pick at end of 1st rd in '06) but Selwood would have been a cert at pick 4.

We won't be down for that long.:thumbsu:

Freo, well if you pencil them in for the spoon they'll probably win the flag.

They sure are. Hawthorn were the prototype 'fill the team with kids and if we suck in the short term we'll just get given more good picks and eventually we'll be a contender' club, Collingwood had a stab at Melbourne's 'one year up, one year down' philosophy and St Kilda well they were just shit.
