#1: Even after all the bagging, supporters MUST me held accountable. Why the F... were there only 37,000 there?

#2: Even though we had an inexperienced side, the problem is... are we training them to lose finals? Are we mentally conditioning them that they can't win come finals, just as Adelaide (93-97) had the reputation of not being able to win in Melbourne (until Blight)?

Saturday Arvo Game = shit turnout. It's the same every time.

Personally, I had to work. About 8 of my mates who normally go (and half of them take their girlfriends) had their Footy Finals.

It's the same shit everytime - if the AFL continues to insist on scheduling our games on a Saturday arvo, the crowds will continue to be low - there are a number of reasons, but they are all irrelevant.

We played a prelim against west coast 2 years ago on a saturday arvo and got over 50,000. For some reason this year I just don't think there was much interest.

Don't forget the royal show is on atm! The first weekend at the show is always the busiest.

Yeah I think there is some correlation between the really poor crowd even for a Saturday afternoon game, and the Crows being terrible front runners (bar Maric, Stevens, Mackay, and Basset).

I know having the crowd on your side can help but seriously it isn't our biggest problem...if they can't win with 90% of 37 000 supporters would 90% of 50 000 make the difference?

They need to be able to win a game like that regardless of how many people are cheering them on.

These are only thoughts;

1) Prelim Finals are two weeks later and therfore less sporting teams would still be playing,

2) Much, much bigger match then an elimination,

3) Everyone assumed we were going to win and they were saving for next week/s

4) The freakin price... I can't remember paying that much ($45) for a week one finals match before!

Yea don't forget a large percentage of Crows members are from country regions and there is alot of country sport finals on at the moment.

Interesting point this one.

I for one think our Club is trained to play within it's limitations. No flair at all.

Sure you need to have the cattle....but Blighty got the likes of Robran, Caven, Theissen, Ellen, Connell, Pittman....a bunch of kids....and a bunch of other moderately talented footballers to have some flair and have a crack.

ATM we are more focussed on what we can't do now....and where we want to be in the future....than what our potential might be now.

I'd rather we train our players to have a crack than have a safety first attitude

What  People HAD TO GO THAT DAY .......there wasn't an alternative day?

Mattner is one example of that who comes to mind, MD.

When he first started playing he played with a lot of flair. Occasionally that led to a fk-up so he was being re-trained into the safety first system as you've called it.

The sad part of this is that he lost all natural instinct to play and his final year before being traded was an unmitigated disaster as he tried to correct himself within plays. He had all his instincts virtually systemized out of him and the result was horrible.

It was actually the players themselves who told Mattner that he should look for another club as his natural game was being destroyed. That came first hand from one of the senior Crows players some weeks before Mattner sought to be traded.

Given that rain was forcast for Sunday, i'd say yes! People work during the week...

The question should be asked, why does the AFL continue to schedule Saturday arvo finals...? Moronic and stubborness! They cannot admit they are wrong! There would have been another 5-10,000 people there on the Saturday night, which they gave to Sydney who managed 19,000...awesome

No one likes seeing their side getting flogged - but over the last few years we've watched Carlton, Geelong, North, and Hawthorn play a very very attacking brand of footy regardless of the ability of the players to pull it off. On occasions they have been pantsed on the rebound as their players were developing the skills to play the style the coach wanted.

It's almost a chicken and egg thing.......does the coach play according to the cattle and level of development in the group.....ie - almost conceding that we need to play this way because that's where we're at....

....or does the coach outline the way the club is going to play over the coming years regardless of the ability of the current group to pull it off ????

After watching some exciting teams progress through that development - I'm starting to think it's better to outline the gameplan......then challenge the group to deliver....and find/recruit/draft players who can deliver.....rather than modify the gameplan to suit the existing list.

Do you really believe the figures would have been dramatically different? ......seems there is a history of when Crows & Port supporters have to put hand in pocket outside of membership games that they are unwilling to do so ......PS games & finals

excuses excuses.

games have been played on a saturday arvo for a hundred years.

it is THE traditional time to watch a footy match.

I agree absolutely with this.

and it is the exact opposite of what Craig said he would be getting his players to do. He always talked about encouraging players to have a go, and not be in fear of making mistakes... and yet.

remember when one of our players got the ball 55 metres out during Blighty's reign???.....you just knew they were going to go the torp.....and it came off more often than not.

These days.....we go backwards to an option and then endure psuedo-circle work until a skill error results in a turn over.....

Not excuses, just reality. The same thing happens every single time - I think it's gotten to the point where the reasons/excuses are irrelevant.

Agree with this wholeheartedly. I know the players apparently gave feedback that Footy wasn't fun anymore last year; but we still seem to play without any real spark this year - and we sure as hell didn't play with enough passion.

This is a dangerous situation......I seem to remember these same sentiments resonating during the final death-throws of Shaw, Blight, and Ayres
