the 2006 draft was a crop rated highly for its breed and depth of tallented young Key position players.
12 of the 17 players picked in the first round where KP players.
it is now the third year these draftees have been in the system, i have been following the progress of 3 of the talls more closely than others, tom hawkins because i am a geelong supporter, lachlan hansen and gumbleton because i always had rated these 2 very highly.
has been very dissapointing the way gumbletons body has held up, but due to lack of senior football experience, i am not expecting much from him at all this year, 2010 is when i think Gumbleton will show the football world what he is made of.
Hansen i see as being just as good as any of the other talls from this draft, the way i see Hansen is that his body and frame is still quite underdone for a KPP he lacks an imposing prescence on the field and in contested situations, this is something i can see him accumulating as he more physically develops and tunes himself over the next few seasons, i can see him really peaking and starting to come good in his 5th season of AFL football, i see hansen as a longer term project than some of the others.
Hawkins has trimmed down plenty over the pre season, has now got perfect skin folds, is in the best physical shape he has ever been in.
Expecting 35+ goals from him this season.
are any of you beggining to worry about any of the highly anticipated talls your team drafted, mayby starting to question whether or not they will make it on the big stage?
I wasn't too keen when we drafted Riewoldt with our first pick at 13. I thought we were just drafting based on his name but so far he looks the goods. Has shown more than most KPP's in that draft.
