Did Chris Connolly ever play the game?
I may be wrong, but I'm sure there are AFL coaches who've never pulled the boots on.

yup he did play ...

A popular and skilful centre-line player at Melbourne he played 84 games between 1982 and 1989 under Ron Barassi and John Northey before his career ended prematurely as a result of knee reconstructions in 1987 and 1989. He finished in the top four in Melbourne's best and fairest three times and was leading by 80 votes when he suffered his first knee injury midway through 1987.

I'm not really sure what to do, as I feel a little isolated over here and haven't seen all of the games. However, from a lot of the talk on here and also from what I've been reading, it seems like Bombers time is up. He's done the job rebuilding the team but the team needs a coach who can really spark them so that we can take the next step, and that has seemed to be missing this year.

So, that said, I have a feeling Bomber will walk - one way or another I think a new coach for 2007 is what the club the needs, as well as maybe a change in the assistant coaches position. I would be happy to see James Kelly traded - he's been terrible this year and it's been a long time since the broken leg so that no longer holds water as an excuse. His time is up with the GFC, as the club cannot afford to nurture his kind of attitude.

I'm not sure who else needs to go - I'd rather keep SJ than lose him, though he does do some stupid crap, but on the whole I think he's worth keeping. Definitely needs work over the preseason though.

Summer '06 is going to be an interesting time down at the cattery.

are you asking me or the other spoon? i mean playing footy is a prerequisite for knowing something about the game...

he means your have to be skilled at football to be a good coach, i wouldnt have thought so...

Excellent point. Tom Hafey and Allan Jeans are two that immediately come to mind. Both serviceable players but hardly superstars. Pretty useful coaches however.

Why isn't there a "sack coach and some players" option?

Surely if there's variations on both these options, they should exist together as one?

And no, I didn't vote!

Stuck like most of us!!! Bomber should in all conscience, walk. He really has done the soft shoe shuffle this year and continued to protect the likes of Kingsley until pressure was put on him. The poll should have offered the alternative of Bomber going, taking his assistants, and a number of duds. Hunt has copped a hiding from the press for one indiscretion and Bomber let him shoulder it - poor form, Bomber.

Kelly had that foot injury that required surgery last year so has had two interrupted pre-seasons. For that I'm willing to give him another chance. I'd wouldn't trade SJ - you take the good with the bad.
