2nd Division Grand Final - 13th September 2008 - Woori Yallock Football Ground - 2.30pm

Grand Final:

Thornton Eildon v Alexandra

Rebels by 17 in a hard fought battle between the top 2 teams
Hot weather to exposeThorntons rucks with the 2 "Big Ms" running them off there legs
Rebels have the best backline in the leagueNuff said
Rebs forward line has too many tall options to coveer
The return of the Rebs best player in Oakley along with Heard and McKeon will strenghten the side from last weekThe inclusion of Coller will lift Thornton if his shoulder can withstand early attention
X factors
1)WeatherAs the day gets hotter the talls won't get shorter
2)Rebs need to be more disiplined than there last 2 meetings with Thornton and not give away so many 50s
3)Does certain elevation to Divvy 1 paly a factor

Thornton will win back to back. From what i hear they are 110% fit and ready. Not real sure on Alex's fitness and availability.

all the alex faithful are forgetting that they are going into this game with more suspect players than us (heard, mckeon, oakley, krijt) and with all this talk of giving my shoulder some attention do you think we will hold back on them.

we will see on saturday.

Thornton by 23. Been there, done that and are more than ready to do it again.

If the last meeting between the two teams is anything to go by, the rebels will need all the "options" they can get...only one player was able to score multiple goals, as some of the talls you speak of were very quiet/silenced by thorntons backline.
If alex need more discipline (in the frees you mention?) Perhaps they should keep their attention on the football...especially once thornton get going.

Despite the outcome it is good to see the 'local derby' going big scale this year, and in more than one grade, should be a great day.

Hi pupsta, why get involved in the banter? Also I would say why comment in a public forum about next year & coaches. I have admired your contributions on this forum since you guys came back to YV but you are off the mark here.

I understand the rivarly factor between the towns we have had it many a year down here, but some old fella taught me long ago about coaching & football admin - "why give a sucker an even break" or even possible why give them ammo.

Worry about the controllables - forget the $h!t & enjoy the day
Dont expect you to respond & you shouldnt.
Goodluck Cagga

PS. look forward to bringing the boys up the hwy next year to challenge the best side from the divide. Many people from Monbulk look forward to the challenge

BACK TO BACK

It might be of interest to some to know Alex and Thornton last fought out a premiership in the Waranga North East Association in 1929. Alexandra's second side won by 8 goals.

Boners by 3 goals!
Fish or Pup to win BOG

and if they do win will they be going upto divi 1 next year???????????????

YG 18's by 5 goals - Hoffman for BOG
YG 2's by 1 goal - Orren for BOG

carn the THUNDER!!!!

Going on the 2 times we played them, Thornton are the better side. Will be close. Maybe a couple of goals in it. Unlike most other sides in our divy, both teams have a fairly even spread of players.

Alex injury worries must be a concern. Every bloke will say he is right to play the week before the GF, who wouldn't. The GF is the hardest footy all year. Injuries are usually exposed after the first quarter...

Will be a ripper game...

Don't worry about the injuries that Alex might have, even if they were at full stength they would get a fair touch up.

Thornton by 6 goals

Thornton by 15 in a cracker. Seem to turn it on for the big occasions, last couple of years of finals show a fairly good nerve I'd say.

Alex to take the 2's I'd say although Yarra Glen definitely improved last week to win.

Emerald with a full side free of callups to the ones to account for YG fairly comfortably.

Should be a great encounter with Thornton Eildon to bring home the cup for the second year running. Finals experience and Alexandra having a few players suspect with injury may be the difference. I personally would have loved to see Emerald there on the big day as I think they may have been more than a match for the Boners with their youth and speed.

Good luck Pupsta - hopefully you can go back to back.

Great effort by Yarra Glen with grand finalists in the Reserves and Under 18's. Has been a great effort by all involved at "the Glen" after some difficult times in recent years and the future looks very promising. How long is it since the clu had an Under 18 team in the Grand Final? Would be a long long time ago me thinks....

think the last time YG had an u/18's in the grand final was in 1985. and the under 18's coach john orren was playing in that winning GF side for YG.

Game of the last 100 years for both these clubs with the ultimate prize at stake. Alex were lucky to get through last week as Emerald only got warm in patches, having said that Marcus Hill was superb and will need to be again this week for Alex to win this game. Thornton will be at full strength with coach Coller 100% ready to go. Interesting that I hear some people are saying that the inclusion of Heard, McKeon and Oakley will put it in Alex's favour but reality is that Heard and McKeon played in the last game and the return of Oakley(nowhere near 100% mind you) would be cancelled out by the return of Coller. For Thornton the continued great form of Parker, Fisher, Chapman and Hourogan holds them in great stead while Alexandra to me seem to relyheavily on Hill, N Oakley and Collard and at times their tall forwards don't seem to work well together but if it all works for them they can go well. All in all a good contest should happen and if last years final is anything to go by the Alex players and supporters will get a very hostile reception from their close neighbours and I'm tipping Thornton to win fairly comfortably. THORNTON by 28 pts

I'm intersted with your theories, I've seen Alex 5 times this year and the 2 ruckman you speak of haven't had an influence on any game I've seen. And Hall has kicked repaeted bags on Geddes and Parker while not kicking bags of goals gets a truck load of possesions and the full back of the year (lol)Bretherton refuses to go near him. As for the tall options I actually think Alex looked more balanced last week without 2 of the talls playing and if I was the coach I wouldn't bring both back in as Thornton seemed to handle that pretty well in the 2nd semi. Good luck Happy Macca you might prove to be right but for me it's Thornton
