Demetriou said the 2008 season would start on the Easter weekend in March, one week earlier than usual, to allow for two breaks to the home-and-away competition.

The first would occur after Round 7: the second at Round 14: when all players would get a break over successive weekends. He said the format of the split round remained unresolved. This year, it comprised five matches one weekend and three the next.

Given the talk earlier in the year in regards to a potential Hawthorn-Carlton Good Friday 'blockbuster' and the fact that we haven't played a round 1 fixture in Melbourne for 3 years, could a round 1 game against the Blues be on the cards for next year?

2 more breaks? C'mon.

This means more of an uncontested game.

Blame the AFL for the quality of the game.

Bring back the long kicking 50/50 contest and its toughness.
