Well, here we go, your best team, followed by a comment or 2. Don't turn it into a war of words everyones will be different, nothing wrong with some feedback though;

B Baker Hudgton Dempster
HB S. Fisher Maguire J. Gram
C Gilbert Ball Montagna
HF Schneider Riewoldt Goddard
F Harvey Kositchke S. Milne

R Gardiner Hayes Dal Santo

Int. King X. Clarke Fiora Fisher

Started Dempster on the ground, I've got a feeling Lyon rates him, if not L. Fisher could be on the BP. Swung Goddard forward for team balance, the back line took a step that was needed without him this year.

Harvey, X. Clarke and Possibly Fiora to be part of midfield rotations, obviously Baker as the Tagger which means L. Fisher to go back if required, Fish could also play run with in the middle if required.
Schneider could almost go in at times.

King and Gardiner to almost share 50-50, chance of 1 of them (maybe more likely Gardiner) sneakin forward to stretch defence at stages. Kosi Pinch hit if mobility is required.

What do you reckon? obviously i'm not saying my team is the best, or this is how we should do it, just giving an opinion, no doubt Lyon will have some things in mind already.

I reckon that's the team, although would have Blake/Rix in for L Fisher (it's either Fisher or Dempster for me, although Fisher may play Baker's role until he gets back)..

B: Baker Hudghton Dempster
HB: S.Fisher McGuire Goddard
C: Gram Hayes Montagna
HF: Gilbert Riewoldt X.Clarke
F: Milne Kosischtske Schneider
R: King Dal Santo Ball
Int: Harvey Gardiner Armitage Fiora

I think that team has good balance and will enable us to kick longer and quicker into the forward line with a couple of good crumbers.

Gardiner and King is a throw up, either can start. L.Fisher would prob be there until Bakes gets back.

i like the second team more with armitage with a big pre-season bevo and RL think that allen could be good enough to play in our 22 ver versitile very good player. and maybe howard as a smokey because he is fast and can play

its always a tough to pick a top 22 players for st kilda as we have always had multiple injuries. When looking at our team we always seem to have 26 or so solid starters.

FB S Fisher Hudgeton Baker
HB Gram Maguire Goddard
C Montanga Hayes Gilbert
HF Harvey Riewoltd X Clarke
FF Schneider Kositzke Milne
R King Dal Santo Ball
Ineter MGardiner Fiora (LFisher/Depster) (Armitage/Allen/Howard/Jones)
Emg Birss Attard Blake Watts RClarke Ferguson Gwilt C Gardiner McQualter Brooks (In that order)

If Gardiner, King or Kositzke get injured who will be first to be picked? Watts or Rix?

B: S.Fisher, Hudghton, L.Fisher
HB: Gram, Maguire, R.Clarke
C: X.Clarke, Hayes, Montagna
HF: Harvey, Riewoldt, Goddard
F: Schneider, Koschitzke, Milne

Foll: M.Gardiner, Ball, Dal Santo
Int: Baker, Fiora, Gilbert, King

Team to suffer becase of a lack of midfield depth and an over abundance of ordinary flankers. Dempster to play most games and contribute nothing. Rucks to be innefective. Riewoldt to carry the team to the finals.

B. L. Fisher M. Hudghton S. Fisher
HB. J. Gram M. Maguire B. Goddard
C. L. Montagna L. Hayes S. Baker
HF. A. Schneider N. Riewoldt J. Blake
F. X. Clarke J. Koschitzke S. Milne
R. M. Gardiner L. Ball N. Dal Santo
Int. S. King R. Harvey A. Fiora S. Gilbert

Emg. S. Dempster M. Rix D. Armitage

That is my team, think it stacks up fairly well, few blokes stiff not to get a mention. I think Jason Blake is a cetain starter, has proved his worth for sure, noticed a few didnt put him in their teams.

  • Defense was hard got alot of running rebounders, Goddard a definate starting backman, L. Fisher more developed than Dempster in my opinion, so would put him in first, plus can swap with Baker for a tag in midfield. Still got Gilbert to give fresh legs and give more experiance to the up and comer. Great defense with 3 talls and numerous rebounders.
  • Midfield looks better, if fit, can beat taggers and kick goals will be up there with the better midfields in the game. Would have Harvey on bench and play him off it. Rotate through Montagna, Baker, Dal Santo, Ball, Schneider and Hayes. Have Fiora the fresh legs and pace and possible rotations through L. Fisher, Gram, Blake and Milne. M. Gardiner definate starting ruckman with King secondary and keep Kosi up forward. All Three rucks known to kick goals and be reliable tall options up forward.
  • Forward set up work around Riewoldt and Kosi. Have them main targets and rotate King and M. Gardiner up there against smaller teams ie. WB. Need the pace and tackling of X. Clarke and unpredictabillity of Milne. Schneider a definate target thats dangerous around goal. Have Blake around the 50 and use running defenders to bomb it long. Need to use midfielders more through forward line and need more goals. C. Gardiner another option if injury hits or saints wanting to play tall. Still don't think he is a nessacary part of the team yet.
  • Hard to get a few talented youngsters in, ie Armitage, McQualter, Jones, R. Clarke, Gwilt and definatly Attard when he recovers. Still believe all these boys can play and need to blood them more throughout the year. No doubt the saints will be hit by injury and hopefully our depth can show us something. C. Gardiner not far off and Dempster will definatly get a run probably even be a starter in '08. Hard to find room for blokes like Birss and Rix with this new influx of talent plus new blokes through the national draft and Pre-season draft. Pick 9 a few games you would expect.
Most people probably don't agree, just my look on things in October.

I believe in 2008 the best St. Kilda 22 would comprise of:

B: L. Fisher, Houghton, Baker
HB: S. Fisher, Maguire, Gram
C: Gilbert, Hayes, Montagna
HF: Goddard, Riewoldt, Schneider
F: Harvey, Koschitzke, X. Clarke
Foll: King, Ball, Dal Santo
Int: Milne, M. Gardiner, Blake, ? who wants it.

Key points for 2008:
- D. Armitage this is your season to break in.
- R. Clarke / McQualter / Birss / Dempster / C. Gardiner need to fight for spots.
- L. Ball deserves to stay on the ball. His courage and on-field leadership is the best the Saints have (bar Hayes) and even if his disposal suffers, his effort should set an example for his teamates.
- N. Dal Santo you need to break the tags - if you can get a bit of agro, work on your 'don't argue' and gut run like Harvey you'll win the Brownlow.
- S. Milne - S. Johnson won a NS, you can have the same impact.
- Such a shame about Attard.
