Watching the Saints v Pies game last night was a painful reminder of the GF loss.

Saints ran out of legs in the last quarter of the Granny last year. We had an all day slog of a preliminary final against Doggies whilst Cats had a training run against Collingwood.

Last night was a reminder of just how soft that Collingwood team is.

Anyone else think that had the preliminary finals opponents been reversed the Grand Final result may have been?

speaking of the 2009 Grand Final

Rooke took a kick and kicked a goal with the last kick of the game but many extra Geelong players reserves were on the field as it was being taken.
Doesnt that count for having too many men on the field and we all saw what happened to the Nth and Sydney game ?
Should the Sts have won last years Grand Final given to what happened to the Nth and Sydney game ?
or was the ruling invalid re the Nth and Sydney game ?

Why the hell are bringing this up for?? Ouch.

2009 grand final IMO was the greatest AFL grand final ever. 118 tackles (record) to 99 (5th best?) can you believe that?? pressure was so intense. The cats won. We came second. Next. I was proud of the boys. We weren't soft. Goddard broken nose, collarbone, Riewioldt ripped muscles (literally, not the good kind) took it all the way. The cats have been amazing over 3 years and they deserved it. They were the better team they set themselves better for the MAIN game. Hopefully we learned from this. I reckon we have.

Bring on 2010 and 2011. I hope to win back to back. I dont see why not. We are a very VERY good team. Cats, Dogs and Hawks can only stop us.

You will never sleep if you keep saying "what if"... get over it mate

rules are rules .

why 1 rule for the Sydney / North match

and

1 rule for the Saints and Geelong Grand Final ?

both clubs North and Geelong did the wrong thing re extra player/ s on the field all beit unintentionally.

Because the siren had sounded and the umpire signalled end-of-play in the GF.

The match has finished but a player with a free kick or mark may take it after the siren.

The umpire does not have to power to award any new free kicks after the siren

Very silly suggestion.

You often see players and officials coming on to the ground at qtr/half/3 qtr time when a player is having a set shot. It's no different to when Rooke kicked the goal.

The siren had gone champ... What are you talking about anyway?? Geelong won by 12 points, why do you think Rooke's kick made any difference?

Would you stop it with this shit? You honestly would like to see the result reversed in a GF because of something as stupid as this?

That's the way it has been since the beginning of time. It doesn't depend on "what", it depends on "when" and "who".

Why don't you strike a deal with the Saints fans? Tell them if they stop bemoaning the 2009 GF, then Cats fans will stop behaving like cry babies about the 2008 GF. Sounds like a good deal to me.

I reckon it'd be good for a laugh. I mean it'd be stupid and i hope it never happens, but if it did it'd be friggin hilarious a team lost a premiership because of that.

Unless it was the Pies, but i am pretty sure we would have lost the game long before then.

Agreed... as long as we settle on the Hawks being an AFL / priority pick enhanced, 1 premiership wonder side. :thumbsu:

one big similarity

St kilda kicked crap in the GF and Collingwood kicked crap last night.

In the end the team with the bigger numbers of points beats the team with less points.

Saints have only ourselves to blame last september and Collingwood will look at that sub 25% accuracy rate and think they only have themselves to blame.

Gotta give you props for that post. normally you stick the boot into our team, even on this board, but the bolded part of your post proves what a good sport you are.

Amusing how everyone blames their sides kicking for losses. The games we speak of are high pressure games, last night and the last 2 Grand Finals etc.

Teams kick inaccurately under pressure. It's no good saying 'we would have won if we'd kicked straight'... well, you didn't. And the opposing team needs to be commended for inaccuracy of their opposition.

A agree. The reaosn Milney, Schneids and a whole bunch of other missed last year was because of the incredible pressure Geelong put on us.... The reason Cloke, Medhurst and other Collingwood players missed last night was because of the pressure we put on them.

It wasn't uch about set shots or anything.

having said that, with the amount of inside fifties we had last year we should've absolutely slaughtered geelong.... by Quarter time. You don't take tyour chances, you don't really deserve to win.

I've said it before and I'll said again and again and again, full props to Geelong for last year's win.... bring on the replay!!!! :thumbsu:

Top post. :thumbsu:

Greatest Grand Final ever?.....Probably not.

St Kilda are going to take some stopping this year. They are an amazing side who seemingly are approaching their peak as a group. If this is so; I don't believe that either us or the Dogs can match their best/near best.

It was no where near the best GF of all time, are you kidding me?

What, just because there was a high pressure situation? You obviously haven't been watching football for very long.

Got to agree. The 89 GF, bar the result, is still the best one I have seen.

There was no ruling in the North v Sydney game. Sydney had too many players on the field and the AFL said "So what?"

Quick question:

"If a defender marks the ball in the back pocket, siren goes, they win by say 3 points and gets excited and kicks the ball into the crowd does that result in a free kick and a shot at goal?"

Because if a forward marks the ball and kicks a goal after the siren the score counts - I was just wondering thats all...

I could picture this happening one day with the umpires coming into the spotlight more often.
