Why? Boredom. Time-killing. Speculation about the AFL year ahead. Not for any fantasy game purposes.

How? A lottery will determine the order of the draft, which will be reversed every consecutive round until we fill 2 spots each. If a pick takes longer than 24 hours, then the next drafters in line are eligible to pick. Of course, PMed picks are encouraged when you know you will be unavailable for an extended period. Passed picks can be then taken at any time from the remaining players available. All players currently on AFL lists are eligible to be picked. After the lists are complete we'll set up a poll for the teams to be rated on the basis of how we think they will perform in 2011 alone - hint: Anthony Morabito should not go in the first round. Of course, its interesting to revisit the draft post-season. Team balance is a virtue as well as the individual performance throughout the year.

Interested? Get a girlfriend, I mean, please post in this thread. Although this is an AFC board thread, the only reason for this is mainly for the sake of playing with familiar posters. Anyone is welcome. There are no strict numbers of drafters, but a maximum would be about 22, minimum about 8. But with 4 months till the new season, I think 10 would be perfect, but will keep it open for interested people up to and including the 1st of January, but, I might set a peak at 17 players. Last year we did squads of 30 which I think is a little shy, because you need reserves to cover your injuries and busts, so maybe we'll just keep on going untill 35, or the beginning of the new footy season, whatever comes first (as long as we hit the minimum of 22)

I'll try to run things and keep things moving along, but others are encouraged to help with PMing. There's no massive rush but the 24 hour rule will be applied. Slack drafters are welcome. Harold Holt is not. Always check this front page for players already picked, I will keep them updated as possible, but double check the last round in case I am not up to date or have made an error.

I think with New Years still to come, we can officially get this underway on the 2nd on Janruary, with the goal to be nearing completion around the start of the NAB Cup, but no rush, we'd have 5 or so weeks beyond that to the footy season

I pulled numbers out of a hat before roo2macca even joint with the plan of getting 17 teams*, Since then, after each person joint up, they took the number that was designated. So the 2nd person got pick 10, the first person got pick 4 and the 17th person will have pick 1

*I hated it last year, when we had lots of depth late, it wasn't fun, Too easy to find those diamonds in the rough. Therefore, we are not starting untill Jan 2, or we get 17 teams, whatever comes first, the later rounds is where the interest comes in, trying to complete that team, with limited options, very tough, but fun. Jan 2 is the date I set, because Christmas-New Years was always the toughest time for people to be online to make picks these past 2 years, so if we start now, it could be slow in a few days, this is just to get as many people in, without causing impatientcy over Dec31/Jan1.

Agreed, we had 16 last year and that was dragging on towards the end. I say that we wait for WALL-E, ams4crows and CC to see if they want to join (cammo stated in the other thread that he didn't want to) and if they do then that would be 13 which would be the absolute maximum IMO.

plus we can just do bigger squads if you want to be forced to find the hidden gems with later picks.

we just wait till the 2nd (we're gonna be slow over the 31st/1st anyway so what does a few days matter?)
we set the limit at 12, but if we don't reach it, no big deal, we can just do the draft game with less people

though, if we reach 12 tonight or something, we can start right away, but not bring in the 24 hour rule untill the 2nd, (people will be busy New Years Eve, and hungover New Years)
