Pick #86: Kade Simpson

A very important player to Carlton as he creates run and drive through the middle as well as a long left boot. He was Carlton's second best player last year under Judd IMO. I was tossing up between a few players here but I felt that I needed to add some pace to my side as it lacks them, and Simpson is quality.

don't agree - top five fullback. People have very short memories, no one would have done well last year in that side, especially with injuries.

Are you guys serial? I don't have a short memory, I'm not just talking about last year. Merrett has never been a top 5 full-back and is not even close to that level at the moment (Lake, Rutten, Frawley, Scarlett then 5 others). Everyone got caught up in that stat that was going around a few years ago when he led the league in spoils and were tricked into thinking that meant he could actually shut down an opponent (but his 2010 was certainly a shocker too), and as Ringo said, he's a turnover machine when he gets his hands on the ball. Tell me I've been listening to m0nty on fanfooty too much but I can think of at least 10 key defenders still undrafted who I would take over Merrett.

Exactly which guns has he stopped Ringo?

Nice picks by Alex and Roo though. Simpson is underrated.

Nice pick Roo. I was just about to pick him.

Pick 87 - Jarrad Waite.

Had a good year in the forward line this yer even though he was suspended every second game. Hopefully he can improve this year.

Just don't agree. He is athletic, and a rare power defenders who can take the gorillas. Has the footspeed to match many smaller key forwards. Footskills are so-so, but the error numbers aren't overwhelming. I like Frawley and Lake a lot, and Scarlett is still very strong, but Merrett is a legitimate defender for any side. There's not ten better - though maybe we PM this discussion so no one gets any good defender ideas.

;)

I agree that he has all the athletic attributes to be a gun FB, I just don't think that means he is one. PMing you my top full-backs now lol...

Merrett is a great shutdown FullBack, probably the best at beating his man one on one due to his physical strength and spoiling ability, unfortunately for him he doesn't offer anything going the other way, which in itself puts him behind Lake, Rutten, Scarlett, Fletcher (did he retire?), heck, maybe even Tarrant

To continue the navy blue trend

Matthew Kreuzer

not 100% sure how what exactly is happening with his injury as I always thought an ACL was a full year out no matter what unless you go down the LARS route, but I've read a few articles now saying that Kreuzer is pushing for a spot for round 1. Obviously with a restriceted pre season but he seems that ultimate professional type that can come back from injury better than others.

Daniel Bradshaw

What a superstar this man is. No one has kicked more goals for Brisbane than him and he was in top form for Sydney whenever he wasn't injured. Am a little bit worried that I now have the most fragile forward duo in the game but he is too good to pass on when I need a full forward, plus we know how well he can work with Brown.

Here he is practising some Jedi mind tricks

Pick 90 - Liam Jurrah

High flying forward who had an excellent end to the season. Having a great pre season and he could easily become a 50 goal forward for the Dees this year if he plays the whole season.

Jurrah already :(
dang, he was going to be my next forward pick, though, when ill be looking at forwards again he probably wouldnt of been available anyway

but still, he was #2 on my overall radar :(

(#1 who I considered in the 4th round is still there though :D - will take this round if available)

Pick #91: James Podsiadly

I had a defender in mind for this pick but with the sudden rush of FF's, I suppose I need one before I really get screwed over in that department (I waited too late last year and got Jesse White as my FF:eek:). Pods was arguably one of the stories of the year after being selected at 28 years of age as a rookie after years of dominance in the VFL. He kicked 49 goals last year which was a very good effort but his main concern is his form outside of Kardinia Park. Still, for all the games he'll play in Geelong, I'll be happy if he kicks bags of 5 in every one of those matches.

All those listed are better defensively than Merrett, and you didn't list Frawley!

Do you play DT/SC Riggy? Let's say you have Jack Riewoldt, Buddy or Tippa on your team and they're coming up against Merrett this week. Now don't tell me that sends chills down your spine. Don't tell me it's just because he plays for Brisbane either. Ben Rutten could play for Richmond and you still wouldn't even consider naming your captain against him.

Nice speed btw guys! I'm pretty sure I know who I'll be getting too so we might get to 95 onwards tonight.

I hope 2011 will be a massive year for Dangerfield, not just for my side but for the AFC as well. He still has a lot of untapped potential before he can say he is a star player. I'm hoping at pick 92, he will end up being a bargain pick.

Really suprised there's still a brownlow medalist not picked up. That's right you know who i'm talking about.
I certainly do, and the only reason I took Simpson over him is because my team needed pace, but he won't be around by next pick unfortunately:(.

he's 31 in a shit midfield, Power's getting old, Rich isn't improving
and the game is going past him

I'd much rather take Dustin Martin in this point of time

I'll be very happy if the 2 on my radar are still there by my next pick. Because I doubt WishinAintGettin will take 1 of them, so I should get both if they survive 4 more picks

Pick 94: Jarrod Harbrow

Absolute jet who will form a nice combo with Stiffy in my defence. GC will look to make him the focal point of their rebound from defence and McKenna has said he'll get some time in the middle too. The shoulder injury is a concern but from my admittedly limited research it looks like he'll be fit for round 2.

Tough call with all the gun mids left though. Black, Kornes, Martin, Trengove, Harvey, Kelly and Ball all came close to joining the XFC...
