Funny how perceptions are different. I recall a lot on here wanting a Morton double and in fact, probably the most in the know all of us, Weaver, preferred Masten.
Sure, I guess I overreacted with that comment. Just don't think we should be kissing the RFCs arses over picking Cotchin.

Just like nobody complains about how we picked up the guy widely picked as number 2 in the draft at number 4 a few years back?

Anyone on the list over the age of 23.

Pattison hasn't even averaged 10 hit outs a game this year.

No they got pick 28 for trading Symes to Adelaide.
Levi Greenwood at pick 28 would have helped to address our lack of tough, small, skillful defenders. Schulz is 23 and doesn't know if he is a defender or a forward. In defense he is 3rd tall at best. Best chance is in the forwardline.

You'll throw out anyone over 23, so kids have no structure to help their development, and wont give players time to develop....

Under you, we're have a team where nobody was over 19 because they'll all get dumped for not taking us to a flag in their first 2 years.

With the depth of players they had on their list, maybe that's all it was going to take. With us it was going to take five. That's what Terry asked for, that's what he got, that's what most of us agreed woopeee, that's right, it'll take that long to change us around. And then everyone got scared

We had a better list.

We beat them more than they beat us.

Wallace said he took the Richmond job because our list was ahead of Hawthorn's.

I dont need a rewriting of history.

I'd love to see a post from 2005, a news article, anything that forecasted that the Hawks were going to be a top 4 side in Clarkson's 3rd and 4th seasons becaus they had a promising list

Everyone on this board, you and me included, were LAO at the Hawks

Going too far here telsor, I think every player over 23 should have been a candidate for a trade. Obviously you can't trade them all and as you have argued they still need experienced players to help them.

Lots of posts about the kids either looking good, (Foley, Pattison) and others needing to take a step now (Lids, Tambling etc...)
Here in no particular order are the ages of some key Tiger Cubs:

Deledio - 20 (19 at start of the season)
Tambling - 20
Pattison - 21 (Turned 21 early 2007)
Thursfield - 21 (Turned 21 early 2007)
Raines - 21 (Turned 21 early 2007)
Polo - 20
JON - 19 (was 18 in early 2007)
White - 20 (was 19 in early 2007)
Hughes - 20
Edwards - 18 (not 19 until Oct)
Foley - 21 (will be all season)
Jackson - 21 (was 20 in early 2007)
McGuane - 20 (was 19 in early 2007)
Jack Riewoldt - 18 (will be all season)

Thats 14 guys out of a starting 18, average age = exactly 20.
Some may not last a couple of years but in essence this is our core group of next premiership players who will have an average age of 24 by season 2011.
Let's not get ahead of ourselves with expectations but if this group can stay pretty much together and continue to develop... I'm pretty happy! :D
pattison raines polo jon white hughesjackson and mcguane are all glass half full footballers. with their deficiencies theres no guarantee they will make it in fact the odds say they arent good enougth.

I presume you noticed this was a bumped thread... my OP was almost 12 months ago.
But FWIW, my opinion today about this group:
Deledio, Tambling, Pattison, Thursfield, Foley, Edwards, Riewoldt = very solid
Polo, Hughes = both have the tools to "make it" and really should do so
White, McGuane = if they continue to improve should also "make it"
JON = jury still out
Raines = ? Gold Coast?
Jackson = not likely

So if development continues, especially for those outside the top group we should have 10 from the 13 as regulars in 2011. Almost half the run on team.
Throw in the likes of Cotchin, Rance, Connors and hopefully Collins, Putt etc... there is your core for the 2011 team.

Is that going to do it for us?
I don't bloody know!

can anyone tell me since millers been there how many young ruckmen have we drafted.can anyone tell me how many kpps we have taken in the top 10. can anyone tell me what the most amount of talls is we have had on our list. can anyone tell me how many genuine inside players do we have or how many genuine big bodied players we have drafted. or how about how many good all round players do we have.

we have been lousy in all these. our list management recruiting and development has been abysmal and since wallace has been there its improved only marginaly hence we are anchored to the bottom half of the ladder.

has anyone aked themselves how many top 8 sides have we beaten in terrys 3 .5 yrs, 77 games at the club. answer is just 7.

the list has more holes than a sieve it lacks quality in fact the majority of recruits we have taken in millers time have at least one major deficieny or weakness in their makeup.
sheesh i can name 27 players who are iffy.
all this and more and people still defend miller and wallce. ffs miller has had 7 yrs and the list looks nothing like a final 8 list yet alone a top 4 list. 7yrs and we are basically where we were in 2002.at the rate hes going it will be 2020 before we make the 8.

people dont expext things to happen overnight but people do expect the club to move forward gradually and yet we are stagnant.its nothing short of a disgrace. numerous early picks yet the overall quality of the list stays mired in mediocrity. all this and still people defend what goes on its mindboggling.

we should be demanding list management recruiting and development gets better. those in charge of those areas have shown they are incompetent.i just wonder how long it will take for the club and its supporters to put the proper value on the nd that it needs.no more trading early picks for recycled hacks rather than trade em away if possible trade into them.this has not happened in millers time.

Excellent post santa claws, but the thing is people like to be ignorant. Most people just do not want to face the truth because it scares them or they need blind faith to put up with it. Don't really blame them for that.

I am quite optimistic about the 05' drafting. I think JON will cement a spot in the team if he is selected to play this week. I think Hughes is a young KPP so needs more time but i like the looks of him when he plays as he gets at least a couple of chances. Casserly ill be honest i havent seen much but seems to have clean skills but i think atm injuries are getting the better of him.

Have we moved forward yes but as many have said only marginally. The key is in the development now .

Rubbish post. 2005 draft was a disgrace not only for the players picked but the fact only 3 were taken.

hmm i wish i had your optimism but my eyes tell me different.im going to exclude the 06 07 drafts
its just to early to make a call on any of those drafted.

of your very solid group pattison is a dud.riewoldt and edwards show some good signs. i have some concerns about edwards size. and as yet i would not put them in this category.

polo cant kick and again is undersized.could go either way.
hughes a one trick pony a lead mark kick player who has no intensity jurys out.
white again kicking skills let him down for a small nippy type this is unforgiveable.unlike a lot of others he has a dip and has a defensive side to his game.

mcguane like white he has a real dip. also like white his kicking is terrible one other problem is his size. to play kpp he needs another 10kg to make matters worse he is a short tall if that makes sense.

jon ill go with jury still out. but based on his cobrg form you have to wonder.

raines again kicking is substandard
jackson just doesnt have any smarts.

agree.both jon and hughes have struggled and are no guarantee of making it. casserly who knows he cant get on the park lovely skills this kid and a good size to go with it. but thats it just three kids taken in the nd coupled with just 3 taken in 2007 and one would think we are a top 4 side just topping up on what we need.

someone should tell them down there that we are in full on rebuild mode.
