I dont believe we will make finals this year. If we had a healthier percentage I may be tempted to hope but as crap as our % is I cant see it.

So looking to next year. An ocean of water will pass under the bridge before then, but can Hardwick keep the players 'up'?

Will our relatively good luck with injuries continue? Will some players have down years much like Morton?

I suspect Hardwick has developed a real team mentality on the back of the media bashings we had in the first half of the year, pointing out what the press were saying about them. For now it has galvanised the team, but can it continue into next year?

What do we have to do to start next year playing like we've played the last 7 weeks?

Time will tell if the last seven weeks are merely an "up" period or we are actually gelling into a good outfit. CoggaRules said there's no reason why we couldn't just keep going, and I tend to agree. I said at the start of the year that we'll play our best footy midseason after the kids have learnt how to execute the gameplan and before the kids tire, and I think that still rings true - our form may drop off towards the end of the year, but come 2011, there's no reason we couldn't jump up where we left off.

Next season should be a further development year with several more kids coming in and learning the game we will probably be hovering around the same next season.

We will get Foley back next year. so that is massive. Dea can also go into the backline and allow Deledio to play back in the midfield. We should be pushing the 8 next year. not sure if we will make it though.

I've a good feeling about Matty Dea, but expecting him to take over Lids in the backline is a huge call. In fact, that just simply won't work IMO.

I see no reason not to keep Lids where he is, the way footy is played these days, most scoring opportunities begin in the backline. Having the ball in Lids hands at the start of the chain is important to us. if he can get it back again somewhere down the chain is just a bonus. We have some good clearance players as it is without needing to put Lids back in the guts. If Foley can come back and have an impact, then I say leave Lids where he is.

Still a lot of footy to play this year which will make it clear how our game plan is going to stack up against the elite teams (Cats, Saints etc) next year. Depth is the key. And continued development of our list. I am loving what I see ATM. But the other teams will be better prepared for us. Gut feeling is that we will make the 8 next year - but just.
