The pressure this year I feel would have been overwhelming for pies players. Built up over the last 2 years as an unstoppable force to be reckoned with. From what I can tell talking to a hell of a lot of fellow footy fanatics is that 'Pies won't win in 2012'. I find it refreshing after this year. I'd rather another 2010 when we were doubted all year and then September rolls around and BAM, we hit our stride and kick some arse.

Anyone else looking forward to a (hopeful) less pressured media hype-fest next year? Or does anyone think there will be equal/more pressure with Bucks in charge?

As long as the Pies are playing there will be media focus. Not as much as last year with Malthouse, but you know it'll be there. It always has been and always will be. Winning by large margins and so many games last year added more to it as well, but the players should be used to it. We have a lot of supporters who put money behind us as well so we'll probably always have the odds from the bookies.

So a bit less pressure, probably focussed more on our on field than off field.

Nobody should subscribe to your theories, ever! This is professional sport where pressure is everywhere. Each club feels the heat of being under the pump to do what is best for itself, club members and fans. Bucks will aspire to be what Chris Scott has become so he can be embraced eternally by all of us.

The pressure will still be on but it will be applied in a different way.
They will say if we don't win,the Buckley handover is a failure and we should have kept Mick.
And then there will be the added pressure of "They have signed with GWS" regarding Pendles, Cloke etc.
Theres always pressure on us to perform, it just comes at us from different angles.

We are Collingwood, the pressure is always on, whether we are top, or bottom.

But I get where the OP is coming from, after winning a flag, especially the first of a group, it does put added pressure on for the next season.

The Cats showed last year, that when expectations from outside the club are lowered, you can just go about your business, and with a little luck, miracles can occur.

But to say pressure cost us the 2011 flag is wrong IMO, bad luck did, we stumbled physically and form wise towards the end of the season, and simply ran out of gas at 3/4 time in the GF.

Next year we will have to go one quarter more, and we will then be back where this club belongs, on top.:)

Are you kidding? Especially in his first year, the media will be looking at every single avenue to take a pot shot at Bucks.

Next year has more pressure than ever to see Bucks perform.

Anything less than 20-2, then it's Collingwood made a bad decision.

Is that the medias opinion or your opinion that we need to finish 20-2 in 2012?

Cause it's a bit over the top... Goal will be to win the flag, to do that you need to finish top 4. Preferably top 2, who cares how many games we win.

Pressure will be off, as long as we maintain a healthy win ratio. If we start dropping games and struggle against the top teams, watch out for the club in crisis stories.

Collingwood always has to deal with pressure even when outside the main ring of contenders. Well before 2010 Malthouse was complaining of 'blockbuster fatigue' - having to play a big ticket game every week. This is one area I reckon Geelong have an advantage. They get a lot of average teams to spank at their fortress without exerting a lot of mental or physical energy. They would argue on the flipside we get the adv of playing MCG so often.

There is a lot of psychology in footy I agree in the sense that we will have the pressure of back to back lifted and will be able to hunt Geelong again instead of vice versa. Geelong were a great side this year but Scott was able to milk that 'us against the world' stuff and 'nobody rates us' etc etc. Not gonna work next year. Both Geelong and Collingwood will have to deal with considerable pressure and focus. It will likely come down to luck, injuries, form at the business end.

The pressure to win it in 2012 is greater than ever! We have a great list and had a proven coach, now replaced with an unknown (but highly regarded).

If we fail next year then this whole exercise would be a debacle.

Meh, I still think there is pressure. If we don't win a flag in 2012, it's only 1 in 3 years and with the group we've got IMO we should win at least 3 flags.

can't say that because the luck factor is too important.

Case in point Geelong.

2007 - were lucky to get past us in the prelim, and were lucky the comp basically was ful of s*** teams that year

2009 - were lucky to sneak over the line against the Saints

2011 - were lucky we were injured

you just need luck no matter how well you play and train

The harder the GFC collectively worked, the luckier they got. :thumbsu:

Sorry I was referring to the media, anything less than what happened last year the media will be all over us.

I'm not sure if the OP meant the media pressure, but I'd agree with that taking into consideration what happened this year.

The reigning premiers get alot of press. That combined with the MM handover and the way we blitzed the competition on the H&A rounds made for media saturation.

Bucks will get plenty of media early on but it won't be the tacky 'trying to find a hole' scenario that played out with MM. If we drop a few early games it will be the old 'should the Pies have retained MM'. I doubt this will happen because the competition really seems to be lacking depth at the moment due to the new clubs. Also, we are no longer the premiers.

Put it this way, if we had won this year, the pressure on Bucks would be absolutely huge in 2012.

As it is, we can 'slip under the radar' and hit our straps at the right time.

My mind goes back to 2002 and '07, although our team is much better now, when we got under teams' guards and hit our best form come September.

We should give it a good shake in 2012. Half of the media's stories are drivel anyway.

Carn the Pies:D
