Welcome folks to the division 2 draft game

Rules for the 2014 Draft Game (same as for Div1)
There are fifteen sides
. Participants are confirmed in the following post. Rules and other detail will all be captured in this post.
Each side must have a name. The post of drafters will be ordered into draft order (using serpentine ordering).
The next string of posts will contain placeholders for our picks, and it will be these posts that Daniel1812, Carl and myself will come back and update with people's picks.

The next fifteen posts will be your sides - please come back and update that post with your picks. Please don't post any "whoo-hoo I have pick four!" type posts until everyone has put up their original team post (with team name) that they be updating through the draft. I'll delete/move posts anyone messing that up.

It is expected that your original posts eventually becomes a thing of beauty. Put some images in there, a logo, whatever you want.

When you make a pick, it is traditional to put up a photo and a paragraph that talks about how excited you are this player was still in the draft and why you selected them. Be creative with the photo - non-existent bonus points will be given for photos that include WAGs or folks with the same name.

Drafts and Number of players.
Overall teams will each draft 30 players.
This will be accomlished and refined over three drafts:
Initial (main) Draft
Pre-season Draft
Mid-season Draft(s)

Initial - MAIN - Draft
There will be 25 rounds in this initial draft. Drafters will be expected to participate through to the end of this initial draft and select a full complement of 25 out of their total 30 players.
Best 22 players will be used for voting at the end of the initial draft.
Drafters who do not pick a full 25 man squad will be excluded from the voting, end of season ranking and next years competition.
The initial draft of 25 players will begin at 8am Monday 8th December

Pre-Season Draft
The remaining rounds of the draft (to fill spots 26 to 30 on each team) will be conducted in the week between the pre-season grand final/last game - and the first game of the regular season. This 'pre-season draft' will be optional.
The pre-season draft will start on, Monday March 23rd.
(NB: drafters who choose to not participate would then be limited to their originally drafted 25 players for the end of season scoring)
The first 2 days of this pre-season draft will allow drafters to 'delist' players they originally drafted.
Monday March 23rd and Tuesday March 24th will be days that teams can 'de-list' any of their existing draft picks.
To delist a play please quote their pick number, drafter, player name and team (essentially just copy the row from the OPs of this thread)
e.g.
1 - Drugs Are Bad Mackay?: Gary Ablett-Suns

These players go back into the pool of draftable players. Any players who are on an AFL list and not yet drafted into someone's team are eligible for selection.
The remaining days of this secondary draft will be for everyone to draft up to the maximum of 30 players.
The actual 'draft' for the pre-season will commence on Wednesday March 25th at 8am.

The draft positions for any players 'released' from a team will be 're-opened'.
Order for draft picks for this will be starting from pick 1 again and filling all 'open draft spots'.
(e.g. if you drafted gaz at number 1 and you return him to the draft pool - you will get first pick in the secondary draft. If you return the final pick in the initial draft to the draft pool and no one else returns a pick - you will also get first pick in this secondary draft. Then draft order will resume from wherever the snake draft ended.)
The details/rules for the pre-season draft will be finalised at a later time prior to the end of pre-season.
All previous rules on timings etc are still in play. Drafting must be completed by April Fools Day.
Additional delistings
Delisting can occur anytime before the start of the season.
Any delisting AFTER the start of the PSD must wait until the END of the PSD to then be filled.
Again pick order to be in order of original pick.

Mid-Season Draft
Rules for the proposed mid-season drafts will be finalised after the Pre-season Draft but be in-line with the following:
- one draft during crows split round bye (between 7th and 17th of June)
- posters delist any player they want, freeing up the position that player was originally drafted.
- delisted players return to the draft pool, any other players who have made it onto an AFL list since the original drafts is also eligible for selection
- re-draft to fill up to 30 players per team in order of open draft backs based on original draft order.

Draft Selection Rules:
The initial draft of 25 players will begin at 8am Monday 8th December

Based on draft order, drafters will make their selections in-line with the following rules:

- All selected players must be on an AFL list on December 8, 2014.

- Drafters have 3 hours to make a selection

- If a drafter does not make a selection within their 3 hour window - they are skipped and the next Drafters selection window starts.

- If a drafter is online in their selection window for over 20 minutes and doesn't post on the draft thread - they are skipped and the next Drafters selection window starts.

- A player who has missed their selection may catch-up that pick at any time prior to the end of their next turn. Any issues with timing, selection order and drafters selecting the same player will be resolved based on post date in this thread.

- The clock does NOT stop on a 3 hour selection window.

- However, a drafters turn is not skipped during the following time periods:
- 8pm to 8am every day
e.g. a drafter whose turn commences at 7pm any evening has until 8am the following day
- 8pm Christmas Eve through to 8am December 27th
e.g. a drafter whose turn starts 6pm Christmas Eve has until 8am December 27th
- 8pm New Years Eve through to 8am January 2nd

- Selections may still be made during these periods, but draft picks are not skipped if the 3 hours on a selection window expires. The next drafter must wait until the window 're-opens' to make their pick.

- Drafters can share responsibility for keeping track of selection timings. However, any selections made inappropriately (based on these rules and date stamp on their posts) will have the player they selected re-entered into the draft pool and need to wait to their next turn to make their catch-up pick.

- If you won't be online to make your pick, please PM another poster to support you. It has been suggested each poster organise a 'buddy' in Div 1 to provide this support.

- A drafter who misses 2 successive selections will be contacted to discuss being removed from the game. If they are unresponsive by the time they miss 3 selections - they will be automatically removed from the game - potentially replaced. (Rules for redistributing players TBD only if needed.)

At the end of the draft, we vote on the structure and balance of each line up.
Forward line (out of 15)
- 6 points; Aerial prowess (eg goals via contested marking, leading)
- 6 points; Ground level (eg goals via crumbing, goal sense)
- 3 points; Defensive pressure (tackling, speed)

Midfield (out of 20)
- 6 points; Inside skills (contested ball, clearances, tackling)
- 6 points; Outside skills (spread, speed, skill level)
- 6 points; Midfield depth (number & quality of players who can rotate through midfield)
- 2 points; Tagging (shut down ability)

Ruck (out of 10)
- 4 points; Tap work (hit outs to advantage in all ruck contests)
- 4 points; Around the ground (marking, pushing forward, dropping back)
- 2 points; Ruck cover (secondary ruckman)

Defence (out of 15)
- 6 points; Aerial prowess (marking contests, spoils, intercept marks)
- 6 points; Ground level (shut down skills)
- 3 points; Rebound (run and carry, kicking penetration)

This voting should be less about predictions of how teams will perform in the season ahead (too subjective). It should be more how they are rated at that point in time. All players vote on each team and each team gets a score out of 60. This gives us a ranking from 1st to 18th on the balance, structure and quality of each line up.

As with our tradition we will then have a mock final series of match ups to extend the of season time passing

End of Season ranking method:
Each player will have a 'score contribution' generated at the end of the season.
This individual score contribution will be based on their AFL team's 'finish factor' multiplied by the sum of the following statistics based on end of season values (not end of finals):
- Total games played
- Plus 5 if named in the AA team
- Plus 2.5 if named in the AA squad (but not the team)
- Plus 10 points down to 1 points for finishing from 1 to 10 in their clubs Best and Fairest
- Plus AFL rating points factor out of 10 (10 points awarded to the player with the highest AFL rating at the end of the regular season, ratio for all other players)

AFL Team 'finish factor' will be a percentage determined for each AFL team.
This factor will be calculated based on an even distribution from 95% (for 18th) through to 100% (for the premiers). Team Percentage factor based on final standings AFTER the GF played. (not regular season finish)

The final score contribution for each player will then be a product of their score multiplied by their teams 'finish factor'.

The score contributions for each player will then be combined together to produce an overall score for a given drafters team.
NB: only players in a drafters team at the END of the season can contribute to that drafters team score.
(i.e. if you delist gary ablett in the mid-season draft and he has played 10 games at that point, you CANNOT use his score in any way to contribute to your teams final score)

Each Drafter's team will have a total score based on summing their 'best' 22 players worth of contribution in-line with the rules below, and then supplementing any scores where best 22 players have missed games:
- Each side must have 2 KPFs
- Each side must have 2 KPDs
- Each side must have 2 Ruckmen
- Each side must have at least 3 other forwards
- Each side must have at least 3 other defenders
- Each side must have at least 5 midfielders
- Each side can then have 5 other players of any position.

Positions of players to be determined by:
- Position nominated by AFL rating system (mid/fwd and small/medium forwards can all count as 'forwards')
- Consensus agreement for key position players, and any discrepancies based on new position for the year etc.
- Any major discrepancies/disagreements will be put to a vote. Majority of voters participating in the vote to determine a given players classification.
- Where a team does not fill one of the required positions above they will have a 0 score added to their best 22 scores for EACH position not filled.

Where any given 'best 22' player does not play a full complement of 22 games, the score for their position in the team can be supplemented by adding a 'pro-rata' score from any drafted player, who can play that position, not in the 'best 22'.
The following rules will apply for non-22 players contributing a supplementary score to positions in the team of the best 22.
- each player will contribute their (final score) / (games played) as their score contribution per game used to supplement best 22 positions. (e.g. a player who plays 10 games and has a final score contribution of 15 would be able to contribute 1.5 per game they supplement into a best 22 position)
- a non best 22 player cannot contribute more games than they have played. (e.g. if your best 22 player has only played 15 games, 7 less than 22, and your supplementary player has only played 5, they cannot contribute more than 5 games to the 7 gap)
- A best 22 player can have their total games increased to 22 by more than 1 non-best 22 player, but always on a pro-rata basis.
- A player used to supplement scores can be used to supplement multiple best 22 player positions, so long as they do not exceed their total games played. (e.g. A non-best 22 player has played 10 games at 1.2 value per game can contribute 6 games to one best 22 position (for a value of 7.2) and 4 games to another (for a value of 4.8))
- any player used to supplement a best 22 players position MUST be able to play that position (in-line with position requirements outlined above). e.g. If one of your Rucks only played 10 games, and you have drafted no other rucks you cannot supplement that players score with mids or fwds etc. Again, discrepancy/debate on a key forward being able to fill in as a ruck can be had (for example).

e.g. Gary Ablett is in a teams best 22. (no shit).
He only plays 15 games but still has a score contribution of 40.
The person who drafted Gary Ablett also has a player, let's say Ed Curnow, not in their best 22 who has played 10 games and has a total score contribution of 15.
Gary Ablett's position in the team can therefore be supplemented 7 games worth of Ed Curnow's 10 (at a rate of 15/10 = 1.5 per game)
This gives Gary Ablett's position in the team the final score of: 40 + (1.5 * 7) = 50.5
(NB: Ed Curnow still has 10-7= 3 games worth of 1.5pg score to contribute to another position he can fill in the drafters team if needed)

The final score for each Drafter's team then becomes the sum of the best 22 score contributions for each drafted team.

Anything else:
All of the above rules, and any additional information, can be discussed via private conversation if needed. I'm well aware this is a fun activity. I intend to keep the rules firmly - but I ain't a hard ass if you need to discuss mitigating circumstances.

Okay - thread re-opened now rules are finalised.

Please read and review. Ask questions by discussion thread of PM. NOT in this thread.

As per the added rules - next 15 posts should be the team posts for each team. Add names, logos, structure etc. Refer to last years game for examples.
http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/afc-board-draft-game-for-season-2014.1037393/

Other posts will be deleted. As we want this structure:
OP - rules post
Set of posts to record history of draft.
Set of posts with teams that reflect outcome of draft.
All the draft posts and associated fun and frivolity.

Meet the Donkey's

Donkey media
We would like to introduce our first recruit, Jarryd Roughead, Jarrod is a highly rated offensive ball catcher. Often he follows that up with kicks. Donkey's recruiter Matt Aparthied said that he was the donkey's "highest rated" player in the draft.
In a exciting, but totally unrelated matter , Jarrid will also be the energy ambassador for Big Petrolium for $1.6m a year once his 4 year deal is inked.

The best available, Trent is a good addition to any team, his strong jaw line and steely eyes make any pretender team look like contenders.
With someone who can tap and someone who can catch, the Cotch's career just took a shot in the arm (non Essendon style)

2015 Season Preview
There is no such thing as a sure thing for a flag, but the Donkeys are as close as you get.
The perfect blend of class, raw talent experience and youth, led by 2 time Brownlow medalist and premiership player Chris Judd the Donks have some serious midfield muscle with Cotch, Murphy and Ziebell coming in behind. Those boys know how to move the pill.
They will get first look at it to, with Nic Natinui leading the ruck charge for the Donks, one of the most exciting and athletic ruck prospects the competition has seen. Nic Nat, is backed up by fellow first choice ruck Mark Blicvas of the Cats a youth track star that moonlights in the midfield, gone are the days of the one paced brontosaurs
Up front the Donks bost the prettiest man in football, Jarryd Roughead coleman medalist and 3 time premiership player Jarryd is one of the best spearheads in the competition, he has one the strongest supporting casts in the League with Westhoff and Reid playing tall and Menzel and Christensen nipping at the ankles.
Down back the Donks have the Twin Towers of Reid and Patfull 2 of the best and most proven lock downs in the comp with Varco and Enright providing some of the best rebound in the comp.

There is no real weakness in the Donks lineup, class, speed height and strength, forward back and in the middle, there will be some interesting matchups late in the season, the donks are top four without even getting out of bed.

Welcome to the Pin Pals
The_Simpsons___Pin_Pals_by_LeeJamieson.png

If I have the required photoshop skills (or someone else maybe) my first 4 picks heads will go on.

Also Danoz is my buddy guy friend mate thing.

Team:
B Sam Rowe - Phil Davis - Taylor Duryea
HB Brandon Ellis - Scott Thompson (NM) - Dane Rampe

The back line: Rowe, Davis and Thompson taking the big forwards. Davis can play on the 3rd tall whilst also potentially taking the bigger guys. On the ground Duryea will shut down the opposition best small and Ellis and Rampe will provide run and a solid enough disposal off the HB line. Ellis can also move onto the ball if need be.

R Mike Pyke - Ben Cunnington - Cameron Guthrie
C Andrew Gaff - Jordan Lewis - Bryce Gibbs

Gibbs an elite user of the football off the wing, and Gaff splitting lines with his pace and kicking. Cunnington and Lewis will feed the ball out to these blokes as they are both two hard nuts who love to get dirty. Guthrie will play as a shut down player who can also attack with ease if given enough room.
The old Canadian rugby player will set up my midfielders with his big body and solid ruck work.

HF Mitch Duncan - Jeremy Cameron - Richard Douglas
F Brandon Matera - Kurt Tippett - Scott Lycett

Towers towers everywhere. Sure Tippet has a glass jaw but can pluck a pill out of the air with absolute ease at times. An AA placed at CHF. And Lycett can be used as a back up ruck (or Tippett) and will be a big force this year.
The two HF's can play high and even rotate on ball. Duncan averaged a goal a game and around 20 odd disposals playing this role for the evergreen Cats. Douglas well if he keeps his feet can be incredibly dangerous.
Matera. The dark horse in this forward line. Averaged around a goal a game and could easily increase that average come years end. Will work hard to keep the ball I50.

I Jack Martin Sam Gibson Steve Morris Taylor Adams

A Half fwd flanker with speed and elite talent, a quick wing/HBF who really came of age last season, a nuggety back pocket that should have gone pick 1 :p and another tough inside midfielder. Plenty of rotation options coming off the bench and the structure of the team allows these to be all smalls.

Emg George Horlin-Smith Nathan Brown Jarryd Lyons

Extras: Christian Salem Shaun Grigg Tim Membrey Darcy Gardiner Taylor Hunt

First I will talk about my forward line , my forward in my opinion is the best. I have the most lethal forward line without doubt. Walker coming back to his best after his ACL , Walters one of the best small crumbing forwards in the competition , Robbie Gray had a breakout 2014 season and many experts had him tipped to win the brownlow , Chris Mayne is a tackling machine , Goodes who scored 30 goals last season and Chris Dawes is my weakest link in my forward line.

Midfield is decent. Harley Bennell on his day is very deadly and he can change a game on it's head. Luke Hodge was the best on field in the 2014 grand final and did I mention he has won 3 premierships? He is one of Hawthorns best players and the best captain the AFL. Dan Hannebery is a fantastic midfielder who can accumulate a lot of the ball and when he's on song he's dangerous. Lachie Neale is one of Fremantles most underrated players , he averaged 23.5 disposals!! and finally Jared Polec was fantastic for Port on the wing and his lethal kicking ability would hurt opposition teams.

My defence is very solid. Hansen the marking machine , Hurley who can take out the full forward , Josh Gibson as the third tall who can play on the smalls and talls. Hamish Hartlett's and Matt Sucklings run and carry out of the half back flank will hurt teams with their lethal kicking.

Overall my team is very balanced and oozes class around the ground. I don't have that one player who can turn the game I have many players so that's a warning to other teams that Swagrid FC will be a force to be reckoned with.

In recognition of my Div 1 Senior Assistant Coach, Bacon8, I'm proud to unveil the Danger Pigs!
Let's go ham, fellas!

FF: Luke Dahlhaus | Jack Riewoldt | Harry Cunningham
HF: Matt White | Matthew Pavlich | Danyle Pearce
C: Tom Scully | Gary Ablett Jnr | Brent Stanton
HB: Shaun Burgoyne | Jared Rivers | Jarrod Harbrow
FB: Jed Adcock | Troy Chaplin | Jordan Roughead
1ST R: Ivan Maric | Callan Ward | Nick Dal Santo
INT: Shane Mumford | Ed Curnow | Ben Howlett | Jack Viney
EMRG: Travis Colyer | Andrew Carrazzo | Tomas Bugg | Adam Schneider | Zac Smith | Jack Crisp | Dustin Fletcher | Jake Spencer

DELISTED: Jaeger O'Meara/Majak Daw/David Myers/Cam Pederson/Farren Ray

Overview:
The Danger Pigs have it all. Numerous Brownlow medals, All-Australians, Rising Stars, BnF Winners and multiple Captains. Realistically, they don't have a discernible weakness and that will likely show once the positions have been evaluated individually.
Oh, and they have Gary Ablett Jnr as Captain...

FF:
Aerial prowess (eg goals via contested marking, leading)

Coleman medallist Riewoldt will be taking marks and controlling the goal square. Pavlich is a multiple BnF winner, Captain, multiple times leading goal kicker for his team and strong leading mark. Of the medium forwards, White will lead all day and takes a surprisingly strong mark.
Ground level (eg goals via crumbing, goal sense)
Dahlhaus is one of the best small forwards in the AFL and is only getting better. White, Pearce and Cunningham are exceptionally skilled and have supreme goal sense.
Defensive pressure (tackling, speed)
I intentionally picked with this in mind. Dahlhaus is very strong defensively, as is Cunningham. Pearce and White in particular have elite speed.

FF.jpg
HF:
HFF.jpg

C:
Inside skills (contested ball, clearances, tackling)

Gary Ablett Jnr is the best player in the AFL. No explanation needed. Callan Ward and Brent Stanton are terrific contest ball winners, Ward in particular being the captain of his team due to his ability to take on the game and get clearances. Scully will come off the bench and is a great tackler and does the 1%ers. Jack Viney is another who is a clearance machine and only getting better.
Outside skills (spread, speed, skill level)
Gary Ablett Jnr is still the best player in the AFL.
Jaeger O'Meara is a Rising Star winner and can find the ball, but can also spread and deliver the ball cleanly and at speed. Nick Dal Santo is another in the same category. Rotating forwards in White and Pearce and defenders in Harbrow and Burgoyne add to the speed, skill and spread. Myers also comes in off the bench.
Midfield depth (number & quality of players who can rotate through midfield)
Ignoring Ablett, O'Meara, Stanton, Dal Santo and Ward, the midfield is very deep.
Rotating forwards in White and Pearce and defenders in Harbrow and Burgoyne rotate through the mid as needed.
Off the bench is Scully, Myers and Viney who would all be starting 18 in most, if not all, sides.
Tagging (shut down ability)
Many can fill this role, but Scully in particular is one of the best taggers in the AFL and would primarily fill this role.

HB:
Aerial prowess (marking contests, spoils, intercept marks)

Chaplin and Rivers are two of the most criminally underrated KPD in the AFL. Take a look at their AFL Player Ratings or read what their team-mates say and it is clear they are pivotal to their teams with strong marking and shutting down their man. Roughead is a solid younger player who is improving and provides a contest and takes the ball to ground when he can't mark it. Burgoyne is very skilled on the intercept mark and is very damaging on the rebound.
Ground level (shut down skills)
Adcock is a specialist small defenders and regardless of what people might say, you don't become Captain without being very good at your job. Chaplin, Rivers and Roughead are all good at ground level and both Burgoyne and Harbrow are great competitors who can blanket many types of opponent and still be damaging themselves.
Rebound (run and carry, kicking penetration)
Burgoyne is one of the most damaging players in the AFL on the rebound. Adcock is a very precise kick and cool head under pressure. Harbrow is one of the best in the AFL at running and carrying out of the backline and putting the ball far from the D50. Chaplin and Rivers are also big kicks of the footy.

1ST R:
Tap work (hit outs to advantage in all ruck contests)

Mumford and Maric are two of the best ruckman in the AFL in the one team. What a joke.
No-one else will have a ruck combo as good as this and they are both very good tap ruckman.
Around the ground (marking, pushing forward, dropping back)
Just gonna re-post this - "Mumford and Maric are two of the best ruckman in the AFL in the one team."
Mumford is known to move very well around the ground and does the hard work. He won their BnF this year which shows how important he is all over the ground. Maric is a solid option in the forward line when resting from ruckwork.
Ruck cover (secondary ruckman)
Seriously, Maric is the secondary Ruckman.

The back Line:

HB: Michael Hibberd | Alex Rance | Sam Docherty
FB: Curtley Hampton | Cale Hooker | Lynden Dunn

All Australians Rance and Hooker are the cornerstones of this impressive defence. Their ability to read the ball in flight coupled with their athletic prowess has all tall forwards second guessing themselves. Dunn as the third tall is the perfect guy to tackle either big or medium forwards. Hibberd, Docherty and Hampton have that rare ability to shutdown their direct opponent while providing attack and run from defence.

The Centre Square:

1ST R: Matthew Leuenberger | Ollie Wines | Lachie Whitfield
C: Anthony Miles | James Aish | Jack Newnes

While the youngest and most inexperienced of midfields, geez it oozes talent. Whether it be the sublime tap work of Leuey or the contested work of Wines and Newnes, the potential of this group can not be underestimated. Miles' speed and sublime use of the ball has been a revelation while Aish and Whitfield are set to ramp it up in 2015 adding more dash and class to this impressive outfit. Adding to this heady mix is Mitchell, Smith, Wingard, Sutcliffe, Dunstan and Kelly who will all spend some time in the guts.

The Forward Line:

FF: Chad Wingard | Charlie Dixon | Adam Tomlinson
HF: Devon Smith | Lance Franklin | Tom Mitchell

Without a doubt the strongest forward line in the comp, with one of the greatest forwards the game has seen leading from the front. 5 times AA and 3 time Coleman Medalist, This guy is the guy you want in front of the stick when the game is on the line. Add to him two of the most exciting tall forwards in the game and it is a defenders nightmare. If you thought the tall forwards were exciting then sit down now, as Wingard, Smith and Mitchell are about to tear the comp a new one. Tough, skilled and miraculaous in front of goal, Wingard already has an AA and Mark of the Year to his name.

The Bench:

RES: Luke Dunstan | Josh Kelly | Cam Sutcliffe | Matthew Taberner

A versatile bunch on the bench to compliment the youngest and most exciting team in the comp. Taberner absolutely killed it in the last few games of the season. With Pavlich on the way, look to Taberner to step it up another notch this season. Dunstan, Kelly and Sutcliffe can all play a variety of roles which is just what you're looking for on the bench.

So - it's game time starting 8am tomorrow morning (Monday 8th Dec).

I've been talking to Daniel1812 and we will just be skipping Geoffa's picks. Everyone will still pick a full 30 players (25 in this initial draft) as per team rules. You'll just be down one competitor. So you should have better teams than div 1 ;)

If you like - get a feel for how it flows from the Div 1 (veterans) thread before jumping in. Typically post your pick, quote your number is nice, do a mini write up (as much as you feel inspired to), trash your opponents, post a pick and then please, tag in the next drafter.

We have a bit of an unofficial rule that you don't mention players that haven't been drafted yet too.
