Rd 8 looking like the most difficult.

I dont think yo can start Pendles and Beams by looking at the byes there.

Reckon I'll give Beams a miss. Hate his tattoos anyways. :thumbsu:

Hah!

Imagine the carnage of your midfield if you had this midfield before round 8 -

Pendles, Beams, Dangerfield, Selwood, Ablett, Cotchin.

If you had those 6 in your midfield before Rd8, the rest of your lines would be very weak.

I'm not really loooking at the byes at this stage, rather load up on players with the easiest pre-bye draws.

Not necessarily.

I had a 5 premium midfield this season and still had a strong team at the beginning.

I did go a bit cheap in the backline though by only picking 3 premiums there.

Next season I may only start 1 or 2 or maybe no premium defenders and fully stack up on every other line as most premium defenders aren't worth their starting price and the rest are all shit! :D:thumbsu:

Alot of good premiums in defence next year tho.

Based on who?

Yet to be seen if McVeigh, Mitchell, Simpson, etc will be classified as defenders.

Goddard and Gibbs could easily lose their defense status too.

I do like Scotty Thompson from North though and he will either be in my round 1 team or traded into it at some point of the season.

Thompson a sc monster. A great scorer. was going on speculation picks. Im looking to go value down back 3 premiums at most too if these guys dont get dpp.
Went with 4 premiums last year, the guys that went with 3 seemed to do fairly well thanks to goodes, ellis etc

I think you can get away with a cheap as chips backline and stack your mids, rucks and forwards with premiums which would give you a real edge over alot of other coaches.

You could have a backline of S.Thompson, Docherty, Bock, Suckling, McDonald (North), rookie (rookie, rookie) and that backline would really hold up well till upgrade time.

Thinking of going with that backline myself actually. :D:thumbsu:

There is no doubt whatsoever that Simpson will be a defender considering that's where he played almost exclusively in 2013.

Andrew Walker a definite to be a Def

Reckon that that's a pretty weak excuse to not snag a player who is potentially $200k under his best points production value.

Problem with a value/cheap defence is going to use up a few more trades to upgrade the lot. The extra funds you make in having a cheap backline may only add up to 1 or 2 extra premiums to start with.
with a team name like tommy no trades you can see my concerns. Trade managment has always been my downfall

Yeah Simpson should be a defender, not disputing that.

Champion Data have a tendency not to go with logic at times though. ;)

LOL!

Was just joking about the tattoos thing. :D

Beams is a top player no doubt. I just think its not a good idea starting Pendles and Beams from the start in the same midfield thats all. :thumbsu:

Well you have to upgrade somewhere don't you?

Why not be it the defense where its the most inconsistent yo-yo line?

Defenders are always the most likely to come down at bargain prices due to being heavily tagged .ie. Hanley, Birchall, etc.

I'd rather stack the midfield and forwards plus my rucks with 2 premos and pick off the bargain defenders during the year.

That's just my strategy though of course and how I roll. :thumbsu:

I can see a lot of people running with Ablett, Pendles, Beams, J. Martin, at the VERY least. Round 8 is going to be a killer, loading up on DPP players is always a good bet.

Yep this. :thumbsu:

I was just about to write something about DPP options in your team being more important than ever but you beat me to it mate. :p

I wasn't thinking about having many DPP's in my team to be honest but now seeing the 3 lots of byes I think I'm going for as many DPPs as I possibly can to cover the bye carnage especially round 8. :D:thumbsu:

I can see a lot of people starting with DPPs, and then after the byes trade them out to get the best team possible.

And then the inevitable injury train hits them and they have hardly any DPPs and they're ****ed :D

Not quite sure I see any logic in this comment. Upgrades purely about generating cash and buying players at the best possible price

I had Terlich starting most of the year. Only traded him out when he missed a week very late in the season to avoid a doughnut. The guy that won SC had him starting right to the end. Hopefully there will be another rookie priced Def or 2 that end up being keepers to save a trade.
