Yup. I wtf'd a little at the launch being so early, I assume it's to capitalise on the Paul Roos feel-good-ness.

Although admittedly, 2013 ended for Melbourne some time around May really.

Honestly, with all the sneaky one-uppsmanship going on in the relentless push to get 100,000 members, the figures don't mean diddly squat these days.

I think launching the memberships for next year this early is smart business because footy is right on people's minds right now, not so much in November/December.

Also I'm pretty sure GWS are selling 2014 memberships packages right now. I know Richmond had a buy a 2014 membership and get the last 3 home games of 2013 for free, which I thought was very smart.

Some of the NRL clubs are also already selling memberships for next year as well.

think you will find essendon are in the top 3 most followed clubs, their membership would be higher if they where based at the MCG, for the last 15 years they have been in top 3 highest crowd pulling teams, topped the list on several occasions, most watched team on tv for 2013 as well as 2012. considering they havent done anything since 2001, its a good effort

You'll find that you're now behind Richmond as well and they've done nothing in 30 years.

My point about Essendon is not about previous years, but to how fans will react to the way in which the saga played out this year and how the club really still doesn't think it screwed up much. Some fans have been very vocal here and on radio, but the only way to really tell what the long term impact on the club might be is to see the membership numbers next year.

About 8,000 already signed up
