On the porch
A post by TheGreatGrundy about players stagnating at Collingwood got me thinking about how I would assess each player's performance. Most supporters recognise that the ability levels of players differ, and as such my assessment in based on the individual development of each player in terms of what would reasonably be expected of them. I have used a simple 3 tier system of:
A: Exceeded expectations
B: Met expectations
C: Below expectations
Fasolo: A
Dwyer: C
Macaffer: Injured
Grundy: A
Elliott: C
Goldsack: B
Kennedy: C
Langdon: A
White: C
Pendlebury: B
Blair: B
Scharenberg: B
Adams: A
Young: C
Witts: C
Brown: A
Marsh: B
Varcoe: A
Greenwood: C
Reid: C
Freeman: injured
Sidebotton: B
Keeffe: suspended
Thomas: suspended
Crisp: A
Williams: A
Armstrong: C
Sinclair: injured
Broomhead: B
Moore: A
Ramsay: B
Cloke: C
Karnezis: C
Toovey: B
De Goey: A
Swan: A
Maynard: B
Goodyear: C
Seedsman: C
Oxley: C
Frost: B
Manteit: C
Abbott: injured
Gault: C
Cox: B
11 players exceeded expectations. Of those, Swan, Varcoe and Brown will probably not exceed their performance in 2016, the rest have potential for further improvement.
12 players met expectations. Of those, Blair, Toovey, Frost and Goldsack will probably not exceed their performance in 2016, the rest, including A grade players in Pendlebury and Sidebottom, have potential for further improvement.
16 players did not meet expectations. Some of those players have already been delisted. Of the ones who remain, White and Gault will probably not exceed their performance in 2016. The rest, including A grade players in Cloke, Elliott and Reid, have potential for further improvement.
We have a lot of players who have significant room for improvement. To make the finals next year we must have at least 20 players exceed expectations. Cloke, Elliott, Reid, Sidebottom and Pendlebury must be amongst them along with further development from Fasolo, Grundy, Langdon, Scharenberg, Adams, Marsh, Greenwood, Crisp, Williams, Broomhead, Moore, Ramsay, De Goey, Maynard and Witts. Hit that 20 and we are back in September.
