We were piss poor today - no guts, no heart, shit skills and couldn't kick a goal to save our lives. Hawthorn far too good and deserved premiers. Truly one of the best teams of all time at this point. No excuses.
But just want to take the time to say well done to the club for the sort of year we could have only dreamed of in January. Coming into the year I thought we had the sort of list that could scrape into the eight if things broke well. When MacKenzie went down, I threw in the towel. Losing Brown and starting 0-1, then dropping the worst derby I've ever seen, our season was done.
It's no consolation right now, and this grand final will linger for a long time, but we've improved as a team and a club this season. We've found out things about our list and coaching staff, have transformed the side from an absolute also ran to a grand finalist that certainly deserved to be there regardless of the performance on the day.
Wellingham and Sheppard have gone from delist material to genuine guns, Gaff has cemented his spot as the premier wingman in the league, Nic Nat had his best season, JK won the Coleman, Yeo and McGovern came from nowhere to emerge as A Graders and we now have a pillar to build a club around in Adam Simpson.
Priddis is the only player on the list over 30 and, while there's no guarantee, it's looking likely that we can build from this.
Shit day, shit feeling, hollow way to end the season. But what a season it was. Grand final was a disaster and I'll discuss that in the appropriate thread, but can't help but feel proud of the season we've had regardless of how it ended. Plus the wings are on the horizon.
