I can't see Cotchin being suspended. A different rule book applies for GFs. Barry Hall wasn't suspended for his behind the play hit on Matt Maguire in the 2005 PF.

Thing is it's his third offence, he gets a fine or reprimand he's done, one week.

If he gets nothing it makes the MRP a joke and pro VIC biased, just can't see how they go 'well, he really didn't mean to'.....

Ken better start whinging every week next week so we can Sloane like protection.

Rules are the rules.

But what offence? He didn't try and go high, he didn't run past the ball, he had his head down trying to win it. He actually didn't commit any offence at all.
If he goes for that we may as well start suspending players for putting knees into heads when going for high marks.

I don't have any love for Cotchin, but he goes for that the game is rooted. Two players with their head down going for the same ball. One just went a little bit harder than the other.

Just because the ball was there doesn't mean he was going for it. He braced for impact, tucked his shoulder in, went for the bump. The result was a concussion and Shiel sitting out the rest of the game. It's a straight out suspension. It's careless, high impact, high contact, 3 down to 2.

He tucked in for impact and was less interested in the ball hitting his opponent. Nothing wrong with that but he was concussed, hit his head, you know the rest. Go watch it again, he was lucky he didn't end taking out his knees. Leigh Matthews things Sloan could be in more strife?

For me Sloane takes his eye off the ball and lines him up and gets him high, he just wasn't concussed so that will be fine.

But would it be worth a fine if he was carless? It's more to do with that really, he's on his third offence, he gets anything at all he's getting a week. If that was in the middle of the year it's a week all day every day.

Tigers by 19pts
Brandon Ellis to be scapegoated by AFL to show how tough they are.
Richmond to be fined for wearing their traditional sash to run out in.
Sam Jacobs to get BOG but Cotchin's Hair to get the Norm Smith.
Crows fans to be in the media all week complaining about not getting tickets even though they aren't paid up members.
Umpires to make a run of decisions to swing momentum in Richmond's favour.
Jack Riewoldt to cry.

I really can't see him getting suspended for this. There is nothing in it.

Milliseconds before impact. One player (Shiel) has both hands on the football. One player (Cotchin) has not touched the football. One player (Cotchin) has tucked his right shoulder into his body, bracing for impact. This impact results in high contact severe enough to result in a concussion that sees the other player sit out the rest of the game.

It's a straight out suspension. 3 down to 2. No argument to make.

Agree, it is very similar the the Sloane hit, he didn't go for the ball at all either.......

Shiel left himself open like a Kardashian near a famous rapper. Cotchin ran in to get the ball and braced himself like a professional footballer playing a contact sport in a high stakes final should do.

If that is even a fine the game is not salvageable.

Shiel did nothing wrong. He has a right to play the football without ending up concussed. If you choose to bump, you wear the consequences. Concussion is a serious issue and the AFL has rightly made a stand against incidents like this in recent years. This is the big test.

Yeah, the tuck is the issue. It may as well be a flashing neon sign that says "not going for the ball, going for impact".

If he had a clean slate they'd schlep him down to a fine and be done with it, but he's left them with no wiggle room.

The medical report will come back as expected. The vision is clear. The onus is on the player to protect the head.

Aaand the Crows will walk it in against a Richmond midfield that will be forced to deploy... Anthony Miles?

That's the way I see it. His focus was on the ball but just braced himself like footballers do when anticipating contact. Shiel came out second best but that's just the nature of physical contests like that

Can they bring Chappy back? just for us

I think the match review panel will give Cotchin a match or two purely on the medical evidence - Shield failed a concussion test. (hope im wrong and he gets to play though)
On sloane ... he will probably cop a fine.. just my 2 cents worth

Tim Ginever just tipped the Crows by 60+ guess he must be in the anti-port brigade eh aye huh eh

First free kick will be awarded to rory sloane who will be tackled fairly but will raise his arm and drop his knees forcing the tackle to slip high.

You are probably right under the MRP guidelines but I would have no problem if the lad got off in these circumstances, I have far a greater issue with a situation like Drew Petrie's late hit on Matty White after White had kicked the ball. Petrie's bump was high, late and avoidable and caused White to be treated yet Petrie gets away with a fine!

He had a opportunity to get the ball , clenched up for a hit and clipped him high sending him off for the game. He'll get a fine.

Haha, a girl I know predicted exactly that for Shuey's first goal in the 2015 decider.

Also tipped Cyril for the Norm and Hawthorn to win.

Would've paid a little bit as an actual multi...
