Mens qualifying wildcards are J P Smith and Di Minaur.

I don't mind swapping wildcards but I feel the Vekic one has been used to get Wawrinka to Brisbane.

A rumour Duckworth might have withdrawn as well.

Yeah I agree. My feeling on WC's is it should be given to either an established player who has entered late or coming back from injury or a young, promising player. Ymer, 20, fits the latter although he has been up and down within the top 200 the last 2 years. Vekic, also 20, but has finished at around 100 for the last 5 years and does not look like she will be any better.

As mentioned previously, Cabrera had a great day in day 1 of qualies today. Destanee Aiava, 16, had a great win over last year's surprise SF'ist, Samantha Crawford, 21.

Really fun tournament, could argue 500 status for the men but anyway. Good luck to the aussies

Vekic vs Q. F*** I hope she loses. I hope it's Bondarenko too. She was the next one on the entry list I believe.
 
Aiava the last female Aussie remaining in Brisbane qualies. She has a tough task in facing Witthoeft.

Kukushkin must be the king of losing to players ranked well below him.

Somehow Tomic has beaten Ferrer before so we'll see his form but not expecting anything.

Groth has beaten Herbert in Brisbane before, almost the best possible draw he could of got.

New year, same old Bouchard. Genie, you are never going to hit players off the court with the regularity of the game's best power hitters. You need some semblance of a defensive game, and at the very least a passable net game.
 
You do wonder this whole "Loves the camera" thing and just how it affects her.

First day of the season and I am going to have a whinge already about the clothes. Why so much black? And the combination of flouro colours and black makes me want to puke! Was hoping for a return to colours more easy on the eye this year but looks like where stuck with this flouro and black crap again :thumbsdown:
