2017 Draftees

Boys I'm no expert but would love to see the thoughts of others for the 2017 draft. Yes its early but I would think plenty on here would have some ideas.

Weren't too many floating around the last couple of years. Think most wait until early next year

If the year just gone is anything to go by, grab a dart board close your eyes and start throwing them.

Off the top of my head.

Josh Begley (didn't even make Ranges initial list)
Luke Ryan (not VFL listed by Essendon)
Tim Taranto (went #2 and barely mentioned prior to Champs)
Andrew McGrath (went #1, see above)
Oliver Florent (went #11 and barely mentioned prior to TAC finals)
Matthew Signorello (from South Morang no less)
Kayle Kirby (too fat, bush full forward apparently)
Willie Rioli (see above)

Goes to show it's still a massive lottery at this point in time.

Jonty Scharenberg was a projected top 10 pick this time last year, players such as Jeremy Goddard, Luke Strnadica, and Noah hura were all rated very highly as well and only 1 of them got drafted (strnadica in the rookie draft).

I believe Sharenberg has major foot problems and wasn't totally honest with recruiters so they didn't go for him

Could've also had something to do with him getting a 12 on the beep test and being a horrible kick... I've heard he has a shit additude as well.

The above few posts (whilst I can't say if thy are on the money re: the player) are on the money re: projecting draftees this early. It appears that attitude and character are playing a more significant role in club recruitment. I think this is a good thing for sure. Externally it's very difficult to determine a player's character simply by watching them play footy.

If a bloke has his head up his arse, it may become common knowledge to recruiters during his draft year, but is unlikely to become common knowledge here.

With clubs being concerned about players returning from interstate more so now than ever, it pays to be mature, level headed and driven to stay loyal to any club which is considering selecting you. Otherwise, they won't bother at all.
