I think what Rankine said in the video is not all that unusual, said he was a Crows fan, and Adelaide was his home, like to stay BUT whatever happens happens.

Plenty of draftees have said versions of the same theme over the years and been happy elsewhere. Unless he blatantly says at draftee interviews that he does not want to go interstate (as has been rumored re Wingard and D.Fogarty) I'd be taking him if we rate him at our pick.

Yeah Rayner said 'obviously you'd prefer to play in Melbourne' or something to that effect at this time last year and at the time I jumped off him.

They all do say that they would rather stay at home and that they would also go anywhere to play in the media. It's what is said behind closed doors and in Rankine's case it's more how he said it. We do get caught up with what they can do on the field but Clubs do much more investigating and interviewing that we would be aware. Twomey stated that Rankine was rather quiet on the trip to the states and that might be in part that he is indigenous (but I've also known some indigenous fellas with huge personalities), there is also some innuendo that he was difficult with Melbourne based managers. For me it will be his output through the national champs as we saw exactly what he can produce last year and this year he looks taller and stronger so will he show the same output or more than last year or will he play within himself. For where we are Walsh's leadership is a massive selling point and hopefully others show the same and I don't mind those with personalities being chosen over similar types. All in all let's bring on the National champs!

Listening to Road to the Draft last night, Twomey said something along the lines that Rankine needs to improve his professionalism (a lot).

Sounds like he's working hard........

So it’s between Walsh & Rankine yeah?

We need class mids and there's a plethora of them at or near the top of this years draft class (at this stage) eg. Sam Walsh, Jackson Hately, Curtis Taylor, Riley Collier-Dawkins, Connor Rozze, Bailey Smith. If we could some how manage to maneuver our way up for a 2nd pick in the first dozen it would be fantastic to get 2 of these. On Izak Rankine, I want to see how he goes at the champs, needs significant midfield time IMO.

Although if the rave reviews Jack Loukosius is getting are true he could be too good to pass on if we end up with pick 1, I'd be staying clear of the King twins.

Thomas Berry would be great if he drops to our 2nd round selection.

Yeah we seem to be doing well with the forwards we have (and more academy guys coming)

I'm thinking we pass on Rankine and it's between Walsh and Smith at this point for our first pick and perhaps Berry junior for the second

Our second could end up being between 25-29. Would be great to move it forward somehow.

Not by a long stretch. There are a lot quality mids of different types at the top of the draft this year.

A lot of people just favour Walsh because he’s a big Lions fan (and he’s viewed as the top mid in this years draft).

From Knightmare's latest draft wrap- http://www.espn.com.au/afl/story/_/...******-knightmare-discovered-next-bontempelli

Geelong star Sam Walsh put on a show securing 25 disposals and two goals for Vic Country, with 20 of his touches coming in the first half. Walsh, who only played the first three quarters, helped Vic Country to a six-point three-quarter time lead. With Walsh off the field, Vic Country's midfield collapsed and the Allies won the match by 27 points.

Providing a powerful marking target in the forward line, Connor McFaydenfrom the Brisbane Academy was the Allies' best in the win. The 190cm, 81kg, forward secured 17 disposals, five marks (three contested) and four goals.

Improving rapidly, Casey Voss (son of Michael) for the second successive week was Sturt's best player. The Brisbane father-son prospect helped his side to a win against West Adelaide. Voss secured 30 disposals, 12 marks, seven inside 50s and one goal. This is his first 30 disposal effort of the season. Notably, Voss has not dropped below 20 disposals since round three.

Brother of Brisbane's Charlie, West Coast NGA prospect Jarred Cameron starred for Swan Districts in their win against East Perth. The speedy forward collected 25 disposals, seven marks, five tackles, six inside 50s and two goals.

Former Under-15 All-Australian footballer, Tom Fullarton will join Brisbane in 2019 after the 19-year-old, 200cm former basketballer was promoted from the Brisbane Bullet's development squad to the full roster earlier in the off-season. He has since made the decision to return to football. The agile Fullarton played much of his junior football career as a key forward and may also at times relieve through the ruck.

Note- Casey Voss and Jarred Cameron were playing in the Colts competition.

2 Greens in the Allies side that played VIC Metro. Thomas Green 30 disposals but Matthew Green very good as well by some accounts.

These are my thoughts exactly but I don't want to be moving back from our 1st round pick but to be able to somehow supplement this with another mid range first round pick. This isn't going to happen via trade so could only possibly be done via trading our next years first round pick. I know there would be a number on here that wouldn't agree but it has been highlighted that the quality of the first 15 or so of this year's crop is extremely high. Melbourne did it and I think that we should also at least investigate. Half our best 22 are 22 and under and 2/3 more top end draftees to this mix would stand us in good stead.

We aren't finishing last, I see us finishing with pick 3. GC fell away the last five weeks but getting 3 early wins did show that they can play and just need to get back to that. Saints and Carlton are in the same box as us but it's evidently clear that we are a better team then them so should move and stay ahead of those two.

Not sure about our second but if Thomas is 'hard as a cat's' head type then absolutely. I reckon there will be some quality later in the draft as well.

I wonder if Gold Coast lost Lynch and the ladder positions were the same if they'd trade 4/5 and 19 for pick 1 or 2 to get Lukosuis.

IMO the 2 top SA boys will end up back in SA, either in the draft or after some time spent elsewhere like Gibbs. I think the SA clubs will trade to get them to their club from the draft. Trade period should be interesting.

Work collegues son...

One of the top mids. Some think Smith is the best mid - for one a better kick than Walsh
Oh I agree and said as much a couple of weeks a go.

But almost everyone in the media keep saying, “Sam Walsh is the best midfielder or can’t miss prospect in this draft”.

If walsh is the class midfielder as touted, as mccluggage was in his draft year, and he is available at our first pick then we should take him without reservations. We are definitely seeing the benefit of taking mccluggage now. Our second pick, likely to be pushed back maybe 2 or three spots due to f/a compensation could see tom berry still available (not being mentioned in twoomeys latest top 20). A hard nut with good evasive skills would be ideal. At our third pick i wouldnt rule out jarrod cameron being available regardless of his nga association with west coast. They may have other priorities or other nga's preferred, they cant take them all. He would only have to say he wants to play with his brother or that he and his folks want to move back to qld and west coast would leave him alone. His pace etc would be good for us. Walsh, berry and cameron would certainly be happy to play here and likely to stay for many years. Young voss, rendell as father son selections could be a chance later in the draft or rookie draft as would someone thats a speedy half back that can tackle. Carlton and the suns (if lynch leaves) will fight tooth n nail for lukosious, as will the sa clubs. Rankine also will be the target of the sa clubs. I see heavy horse trading happening to achieve their goals. I also see some strategic bids on f/s, academy and nga kids in an attempt to force picks before necessary and use up later picks for points. Its going to be a very interesting draft this year, throw in the live trading if it happens and its going to be more complex than tax law.

While it would be awesome to get another pick in the top 12-15, l really can't see it happening. Every club would want another top pick and we have nothing to trade for it bar our 1st pick e.g. McCluggage/Berry trype trade. However, if we do that we might not end up with Walsh.

Do any of our draft watchers know if any of the Champs games are being televised or streamed?
