Do you reckon all these countries at the moment are having articles and news reports splashed across their newspapers and Tvs about the World Cup bid? You bet, and thats the whole purpose of the bidding process. Perhaps a masterstroke by FIFA, the process ensures soccer gets stadiums, infrastrucutre, and most importantly, airtime. And this will happen in countries that wont even end up getting th event.

But this is why we need to step back and be realistic. There are 10 or so other countries doing exactly the same as us, and are we a big soccer playing country? No. Are we realistically a growth area? No.

The fact is, the 2014 world cup will be held in Brazil. TV rights are the biggest money earner for FIFA. And their biggest market is Europe. Brazil isnt in Europes time zone. It will have gone, Africa, South America. ..
Australia. No
Europe. Yes

Its futile, but soccer will be the biggest winner. The tax payer will foot the bill, and this sport will get more airtime then it will have ever experienced in its existence in Oz. This whole thing just pisses me off because we are not going to win it. $44m pissed down the drain, and alot of talk for nothing.

should do wat the japanese are doing and forget about 2018 as it nearly certain to go back to europe, as its there every second time...and concentrate on 2022...

England, United States, Russia, Japan, Qatar, Mexico, South Korea, Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, Spain.
just letting you know
it's
Australia 2018 + 2022
England 2018 + 2022
USA 2018 + 2022
Russia 2018 + 2022
Japan 2018 + 2022
Netherlands/Belgium 2018 + 2022
Portugal/Spain 2018 + 2022
Qatar 2022
South Korea 2022
Indonesia 2022
Mexico bid withdrawn

and it's beleived Japan is about to withdraw it's bid because it was going to be a "golden age in sport" for Japan, but they failed to get the 2016 olympics.

I agree with toddflanders, forget about 2018 and aim for 2022. With it almost certain to be England or Russia in 2018, it wont be going back to a UEFA nation in 2022 or 2026 (with the new rules). The AFC will back who they think will have the strongest bid, Clearly out of the AFC nations it will be us, but it will all come down to whether the AFC can convince the UEFA nations to vote for them in 2022 if we vote for their country of preference in 2018.

looking at the local times in South Africa for their games they're 13:30, 16:00 and 20:30,

so if 2022 it is in Australia the times in GMT are
13:30 = 3:30am
16:00 = 6:00am
20:30 = 10:30am
if in US
13:30 = 6:30pm
16:00 = 9:00pm
20:30 = 1:30am

it's obvious which is best for Europe, So the US should get 2022 (about 95% chance IMO) because of the $ FIFA will make from the broadcast rights
the only chance we will get it is if FIFA rates growing the game ahead of $. Highly unlikely

I do realise this. I am just stating that we are no chance what so ever for the 2018 WC. But we will be hearing about this bid for the next year. And whens that all over, and we dont get it....we will have to go over it all over again.

Its just ridiculous, and the only reason I can see that we are actually bidding for 2018 is for the exposure it creates for soccer.

Or maybe the fact they are announcing BOTH results at the same time, so if you are spending the money why wouldn't you put your hand up for both?
