Peter Gordon has been saying for a while now that he expects the clubs revenue to double from $35-8 million to $70+ million in the next 5 years. Edge water, ballarat and an improved edihad deal maybe in the next year or 2 are part of the reasons for this increase.

He was on 3aw a day or 2 ago (the interview is on the website) he said that he is targeting 50,000 members by 2019.

I for a few years now have been saying that we as a club have so much potential in the way of growth, that if we do the next 5-10 years right that we can turn it around on and off the field. That 50,000 members isn't as far fetched as it might seem.

What other things do you wish for the club by 2019/20 ? How do you see we can achieve these things ?

How many of us can put their hands on their hearts and say " yea, verily, I truly believe it will happen exactly as el Gordo says"?

I'd love him to be right but I just can't see us doubling revenue and increasing membership by 40+% in four years when it has been flatlining in the low 30k range for the last four.

I think he said he expected 50,000 but had "a bigger stretch target" himself. Also a doubling of staff.

If we get even half way to those numbers I'd be happy.

Casting off the Etihad millstone from around our necks would be a great achievement on its own.

Revenue doubling? I can believe that. I could see a number of clubs having double the revenue in 4 years.

Membership at 50,000? Now THAT I'd like to see. Fingers crossed!

50,000 would be amazing.

But let's think about this. It's 2015, so 2019 is four years away. We're struggling to get 35,000 members as it is.

I honestly don't think it's a realistic target.

I'd rather shoot for a higher target than something that's more "achievable" and be content with having 40,000. At least this shows that we're going all out.

40,000 = 45,000 members is a realistic target and something I can achieve. On-field success should see us at least back in the top 8 by then and hopefully with that means increased exposure to friday night football against big teams.

Let's not be one Richmond and make outlandish statements we probably can't reach.

As most above have said shoot for 40000 first, a few competitive years and better membership strategy should make this possible although in the downside continued average performance may mean we don't even reach that mark

I don't have a problem with him aiming high. It's just when it become public it looks a bit murky from where we are sitting.

I don't think it is a stretch at all. We had a target of 260000 not that long ago, our best return to date has been over 35000.

The sad thing is that when we reach 50000. Other clubs will have reached 100.000

An AFL flag in the next few years would see us get to the 40K mark IMO.. We'd need a 3-peat to reach 50k+, or lots of pet memberships ;)

Gordo could organise 50k members tomorrow, just set up a 5c imaginary friend membership and buy 30k of them. It wouldn't be much different to what most clubs do to inflate their membership figures. Don't we give away some memberships to VU students and count them in the total?

I think board members buy those, or at least tip some cash in to cover that cost

The 3 game memberships to VU enrollments don't count in our total.
