Thought I'd bring some light to the shitshow.

Positives for me this year in no particular order;
  • Peter Wright proving I'm a nuffie who has no idea by kicking 53 goals.
  • Sam Durham's development just when we thought we couldn't develop players, maybe we can
  • Ben Hobbs' debut year - bright future and we need more of his leadership traits
  • Jye Caldwell getting through a full year and developing a hard edge to his game; I reckon his ceiling is some way off yet too
  • Sam Draper's improvement due to getting through a full season
  • Finding D'Ambrossio. What a gem.
  • Hurls' return and classy exit
  • Beating Sydney and Hawthorn
  • The VFL women's team winning a flag and the AFLW team forming - I need to follow more closely
  • Choosing not to give the club my money this year
I'm interested to know everyone else's.

sydney win. I’m still getting texts about standing room that day. Those campaigners rocked up thinking they’d just roll over us. It was ******* delightful. Old school Essendon standing room insanity.
Royal Hotel. Standing room. Drink from cans. Get an old bag swan fan booted out. You say drugs, I say cola, you get personal, I’ll call you a ****.
Glorious.

That was a great win.

The exact type the club specialises in pulling out of its arse just often enough to keep us all interested, but without ever threatening to grow into a harbinger of something afoot.

Wright is a bonafide star key forward - the hardest type of player to find.

Break out year for Redman.

BZT is actually a reliable defender.

Laverde was fantastic again, often under heavy pressure.

Perkins continues to develop, has so much class and looks a star in the making.

Draper is an absurdly good ruckman for a bloke who’s played so little footy - they normally take 5+ years to develop

Caldwell stepped up quite a few times and looks a player

Durham looks a gun

Massimo was a great pickup

Hobbs looks very good

Guelfi found a position and became a solid contributor

Nic Martin looks a gun

Peter Wright - Nic Martin - Sam Durham - Mason Redman - Sam Draper - Ben Hobbs - Jai Caldwell - Archie Perkins

Pick 4

Hopefully the beginning of a new Essendon with a potential restructure

Beating Brisbane at the Gabba. The only match I got to this year.

Wright- obvious why
Redman - started the season poorly worked his ass off to become one of the most important player's out there week in, week out.
Martin- a gem
Hobbs- how he got to our pick was just a dream scenario. A lot to like about the kid.
Durham- first full year and seems like a goer.

Wins: starting the Saints' slide to ahem hell, Similarly the Lions. Knocking off Sydney and dawks is always good.

Shout outs :
Shiel: was the laughing stock of the AFL and had a s**t year. Put his head down and I think won a lot of respect back from hard work and TRYING to set an example with effort.
Laverde: From been the glassman to someone who just kept getting up and someone who ACTUALLY competes
Draper: Kicked GOTY and like Redman worked his way back into the season after a poor start.
Caldwell: Looks a likely body on the line player.
Merrett: Is bit of an acumenlator, yes. But really is trying to lead.

Hobbs - we've got a good one here. Possible future leader, wants to win every contest, great 2nd efforts to make amends for his errors in a game.
Caldwell - played some good games and had a full season which should bode well going forward
Draper - thought he should have been dropped early in the year, glad he wasn't. Very athletic for a big man and such a competitor.
Martin - fell away towards the end of the year, but has had a great season. How on earth did we get him?
Durham - gives his all at every contest, just what we need as we severely lack this.
D'Ambrosio - elite by foot. Could kick 40 goals a year down forward if he gets enough of it. Dependable in the back half. Will be better next year.
Redman - one of our best this year. A competitive beast down back.
Wright - saw him live plenty of times for GC, beautiful kick for goal and a freebie for us. 50 goals in a year is a great effort, with more forward support he could be better.
BZT - breakout year, won contests that he had no right to. Persistence paid off for him and us.
Guelfi - his best year by far, hopefully more consistent next year then onwards and upwards from here.
Hurley - we cannot underestimate the mountain this man had to climb to play his last game. Essendon through and through. Love ya Bear!
Laverde - another competitor, playing against the top forwards and despite punching above his weight, gives his all every single time.
Games into Baldwin, Jones, Wanganeen, Menzie, Bryan, Perkins, Cox, Reid.
We smashed the VFLW, went undefeated and won the flag!!!
We have an AFLW team about to play in their first season. Hopefully they are more competitive than the men's team. GO GIRLS!!!

Draperman - took another step - many more steps to go
Caldwell - classy skills and has a dip
Hobbsy - typical country Victorian hard nose tough nut
The Shield - showed some maturity in the 2nd half to others on how to go about it - NEEDS HELP (more mids)
The Bear - UNIVERSAL LOVE
2MP - a trading steal - great season
Redders - BREAKOUT SEASON
Kelly - i thought the Bull was very handy when he had shutdown roles
BZT - just needed confidence to show his ability
The Guelf - won't be suprised if he went home to WA - STAY DRACO!
Durham, Martin, Mass and Menzie - great pick ups

I hope you don't mind me butting in but I cannot overstate how much of a positive 2 litre Peter has been for you guys. Because it's obviously not a flash in the pan Jack Anthony 50 in a year. He's your meat and potatoes full forward, which might sounds like a diss but it is a bloody good thing. Get it in front of him or in the vicinity even due to his height, he will mark. Unlike most other big blokes, that mark generally results in a goal.

He's only just about to turn 26. He's got 6 peak years ahead of him. 53 goals in a side that battled all year. Once you're a good side, he'll be kicking 80 plus goals a year, because he takes his bloody chances, both in the air and off the boot. And that is what you want when the pressure is on. Jet.

There are many but the biggest for me is Hobbs. Said it before but I can't recall the last player we've drafted that I've felt so good about. Want to see him as a mainstay in the midfield next year.

Wright, Durham, Caldwell, Shiel, Redman, Draper, Zerk-Thatcher, Hobbs, D'Ambrosio, Guelfi and Martin all either improved or emerged.

Big crowds again.

Hopefully we'll look back on this season and in particular the events of the last week as like the "recession we had to have".
