Two positions required imo...

Goalkicking small medium/fwd
Comfortable spending the $'s on Will Hayward. Pressure forward who kicks goals and is as good on the ground as he is in the air. Makes a potent forward line even more dynamic.
Cheap: Noah Cumberland?

Key Position defender:
Josh Battle. Good one-on-one player. Effective (not a superstar) key defender who can attack when necessary. Very good kick.
Cheap: Elliott Himmelberg as key position depth? Can he play that tall defender role and be an upgrade on Young?

Some additional outside speed would be good but hoping that's what young Billy Wilson will provide next year for us.

SOS just loved stockpiling 1st round picks rather than targeting specific needs imo....did he honestly think that Stocker was in the top half dozen in the 2018 draft.

He brings Eddie back to the club in 2020 afer missing out on Papley in the trade period, highlighting the need for a small forward - but chooses to split the pick in the 2019 draft to bring in a tall utility and a midfielder, when players like Pickett and Weightman were there for the picking? By memory, we even had Dan Butler tour the facility but SOS chose not to pursue for whatever reason. Absolutely baffling list management.

At least Austin has tried to rectify it by trading in Fogarty in the 2020 trade period, and selecting Durdin and Motlop with our first selections in the 2020 and 2021 drafts - even though we didn't have high picks to play with, and both were 2nd round selections at pick #37 and #27 respectively.
Not wanting to dredge up a very tired debate but there were multiple voices influencing trading at the end of the SOS era and some of them were not qualified to do so.

Fogarty doesn't kick goals and that's the #1 requirement of a small forward.
His pressure is great but it won't guarantee an AFL listspot alone.
Correct Fogarty is not known for kicking many goals, but his forward pressure is sadly missing right now, his pressure is important in setting up goals.
Durdin is a long way behind in this area, based on his output a 2 year deal was very generous.

Not only his forward pressure, but his rotation through the midfield at times as well. Where missing his smarts and pressure up the field imo

Williams has a say in it so if you think we are going to ship him off then expect to see him playing for Collingwood, Geelong, Melbourne, Sydney type clubs and us paying him to do so.

Will Hayward and Tom Barrass that would be wonderful if possible

We aren’t chasing any ready made A Grade talent. We have that

This year will be about draftees, and more Acres/Hollands type deals. Very good role players that don’t cost much

We also have faith in Motlop Hollands Wilson Cowan becoming very good players

Our List like last few will be given an “upgrade” with a view for helping now yet still having talent coming through for next decade

PS our Salary Cap is in a good spot if someone falls in our lap
I'd ****ing love the bont to fall in our lap

Agree in principle - but why wouldn’t we chase a free agent if we could upgrade & the salary cost was ok???

we are obviously getting Campo boys x2 this year and I’d be anything that Austin tries to use our future first plus our current first rounder to ensure our first pick lands before Ben Campo which potentially nets us two gun kids plus Lucas and from here I’d have our future second on the table as well as Young and perhaps even Kennedy…. Harsh on Kennedy, but tough decisions need to be made if we truly want to address list needs.

Whilst i doubt one of those clubs would play Zac, any mention of us moving him on, or even if he wanted to move on, needs to come with the disclaimer, we have to include Zach salary in our cap, even if traded.

As a free agent, we need to include his $$$$ regardless if he plays with us or not, unless someone has a different interpretation of the rule, that’s what’s been in the media since the rules inception.

Why wouldn’t we be chasing any ready made A grade talent? Unless we have differing views of A grade talent, id put five of our players in A grade brackets, so most players being talked about as chasing wouldn’t be considered A graders.

I certainly hope we hit the draft hard, the twins will be great additions and we will have a chance to get a pick in before them which would be great, but if we could bring in a FA in an area of need, it would really compliment our list. A player like Wicks would fit in nicely with the other guys you mentioned and wouldn’t cost much.

Any comments stating that our salary cap is in a good spot if someone falls in our lap, but we wont be going after A graders, is a bit contradictory, actions speak louder than words and we have gone after role players the last few years because we spent good $$$ the few seasons before and we needed to consolidate, if we had money, we would be chasing higher quality targets.

In your opinion, are players like Ainsworth and Howard A graders? Both free agents, both good players, both would compliment our team and go a long way to making our forward line really strong.

Jon Ralph reporting on, On the couch, Stengel could be worth around $800,000 per year for his next contract.

For those baulking at the reported costs predicted for players like Ainsworth, Hayward, Mcluggage, it should be noted that the AFL salary cap goes up $4M next season.

That money has to go somewhere, a few media outlets were reporting a few weeks ago that to get band 1 compo a player would need $900,000 per year plus.

No mention of Moir?

They came out at 12 and 15 with Kemp at 17 though.
Brad Close as the 14th picked rookie would help.

We traded pick 11 and 62 to Gold Coast for picks 17 and 22, we then flicked 22 and 55 to Port for pick 20. We took Kemp at 17 and Philp at 20. So we could have just held pick 11 and used it.

Players drafted in between pick 11 and when we took Kemp at 17 were Flanders, Pickett, Day, Bergman, Weightman and Cooper Stephens. Players drafted after Kemp and before Philp were Georgiades and SDK.

Give us a James Sicily and a Bobby Hill and we would be a different team. Get rid of Williams and martins salary and try and address our glaring weaknesses.

I agree with this but what I will say is that on the weekend our defence held up brilliantly and our forward line was way more efficient then Collingwood’s was.
I think finding some more speed around the ball would have an equally big impact for us.
