Given the windy conditions and his team losing the territory battle, it's a credit to Liam Hetherton that he managed to kick three goals and look dangerous whenever the ball was kicked in his direction. He moves well for a big guy, shows clean hands in marking contests and knows how to use body work to protect his dangerous space.

If we have and take 2 picks in the top 5 to the draft, would people rather go for best available mids x 2 or a mid and ruck Duff-Tytler?

What is Hustwaite worth? Our future 2nd or 3rd? Probably somewhere in between for mine.

Today I’m taking Sharp and FR. Our midfield is trash, we need an insanely competitive inside mid which is sharp and Fred provides speed and class we also desperately need.

But CDT is an athletic marvel, probably 1% athlete at afl level let alone the guys at CTL level. Very much a world we take him if he develops kind of like Tauru last year, improves is forward craft, cleans up his hands and his intelligence around stoppages. I like that he played midfield on weekend at a few stoppages.

I personally don’t like taking rucks early, I don’t rate the position as overly important. If we drafted him I don’t want a Luke Jackson/Brody Grundy, I’m a ruck who can crash bash and move like a midfielder but isn’t really a midfielder I’m just athletically superior to my opposing ruck. I want to see him this year developing into a Matthew Pavlich just a massive kpp midfielder or a forward/ruck like Thilthorpe or Darcy to take him early.

Sorry but am I the only one that hears the surname Duursma and shivers?

Might be unfair on the kid but that's how I feel.

Nah I get it. But he would suit us at same time. Hopefully Fred makes it so we don’t have to take him.

Hes the same height as Luke Jackson. Very similar profiles athletically. I think CDT is a better runner at the same age.
Unless he has a great leap like TDK i think these days Ruckman need to be taller
Im not a massive fan of Luke jackson as a Ruckman.

But can see a world where CDT is our post Nank #1 Ruckman rotating with Sims. Specially if the sub role is changed to 5 on the bench allowing teams to play the extra tall which would allow
Armstong & Faull the 2 tall fowards and Sims & CDT as rotating 3rd tall / Ruck

He'll definitely test well. I don't know how he would stack up with other rucks in terms of vertical but watching him live now a few times its clear he has no issues in the ruck or flying for marks.

Also being a late August birthday he still have some growth
I dont think we will 'Not take him because of our draft haul in 24' and will just take best available talent with our 2 picks
His athletic traits certainly sets him apart from the other draftee's and is almost my perfect Ruck proto type and i firmly believe the game will change to have Rucks that are genuinely dual position players.
Sims & CDT partnership of Ruck/FWD would be tantalizing

The problem with posters on here when they trash picking a ruck with a top pick, they are relying on past performance to predict future performance with a p value of 10-13 players which is from a statistical point of view entirely random.

We simply should pick the best available. I get not drafting a pure ruck at that pick but this guy (needs to improve and show consistency) could be more. From a list need point of view ruck and outside mids are the biggest need and whoever is best gets selected.

Last thing you want is to leave the big athletic dog on the table like Franklin and Roughead. KPF but if CDT goal kicking output, marking, improve with 2-3cm of extra height watch out.

i understand rucks historically don't need to be high picks, but i'm not against cdt purely because if he's best pick available, i would like to watch a genuinely talented ruck who knows how to get the ball and use it run around for us after watching our projects of colina & OHB for the past 5 years

like imagine in 2-3 years when nank is at the end and we trade for a ruck who isn't getting a game like what we did with nankervis, but it doesn't work out this time, and now we're stuck with a spud ruck for 3 years while we desperately try to replace him with other spuds

or we could get lucky and get a rookie pick ruck who is great, luck of the draw, who knows

but cdt rotating with sims would be gr8 to watch in the future
You could also say cdt/ Emmett and any young kp fir that matter standout now because they're up against similar in body size and less in ability.
Step upto afl and they don't have that luxury.
By the time they're physically able too it might be too late(Confidence shattered).

I have no faith in our club drafting a ruck with a late pick. It's either gotta be the no brainer early pick (tbh I dont have much faith in us here either) or hope we pick well off the back up merry-go-round (this I have faith in with Maric & Nank)
Whats the bet we draft both Duff & Emmett. 😁

If CDT continues to build on his midfield performance he'll be a unicorn - good ruck, capable mark, good skills and a good mid. The comparison, if he is actually a good mid, is to no previous ruck that I am aware of.

No idea if that happens, but if you know he will be at least a B grade AFL mid, and a decent ruck, then you are looking at something special. Low risk huge reward. But totally unique and so difficult to place.

No 18 yr old is perfect.

I am confidant however, that you way way overstate his deficiencies

I could go through your arguments one by one, they are all pretty much off the mark.

Everything is relative, and he will be and is already in my eyes, the clear number 1, and the gap will just get bigger over time

He is an outstanding prospect, but this is a forum, and we are entitled to our opinions, lets see who is right on draft night, but this will be settled way way before that I assure you
Plenty of flops went #1.

Imagine if we picked up:-
Sharp/Rodriguez
Duff-Tytler
Kellaway Jnr

Plus
Ed Richards
Hustweight (trade)

And still kept 2026 and 2027 first and second rounders.

Plus there is still Leys Jnr and Tanner Armstrong

Plus front of the queue for mid season draft additions x 3.

That's another 14 potentially quality players over the next 3 years.

Like I said last year, I don’t care who we draft and long as they have speed and skills. That’s all that matters. Unfortunately we didn’t really draft that last year except for Hotton.
Wouldn't be an issue of we drafted the Jagganaught.

Questions have to be asked how valuable Jackson actually is to that Freo team. Freo are last in clearances in the league with Darcy injured and Jackson leading the ruck. Freo fans are begging for Darcy to come back.

Jackson gets a lot of possessions because he's around the ball a lot but overwhelmed in actual ruck contests. He's not physically dominant. He's an okay to average forward.

This is going to be the CDT problem if he continues to look undersized in the ruck and only looks so so as forward. What's the argument for going so early in the draft?

Zero chance I'm picking CDT at pick 1 on current outlook.

No comparison btwn Dodson and CDT apart from
both ruckman,
both basketball back grounds,
both proficient at ground level,
both around the 200cm mark,
both late starters to Aussie rules.
Where did Dodson go 🤔 (53).
CDT is definitely a better prospect, just saying….
