The GWS Board Most Valuable Giant (MVG) voting is back again for 2025.

We're going to go with the same voting system for our GWS BigFooty Board MVP as the last six years, which I think works well.

Posters will have a total of 15 votes per game to award to players as they see fit, with a maximum of 5 votes per player. That still allows you to award the standard 5,4,3,2,1 but flexibility to award differently if your assessment of players' performance is different.

I then turn those votes into points as a percentage (i.e. a score out of 100), with everyone who gets awarded points getting points (providing they round to a minimum of 1). So, a total of 100 points gets awarded each week (rounding errors sometimes makes that 99 or 101).

For example:
  • if 3 players perform equally well, you may choose to award each player 5 points (15 points total)
  • if there's one standout well ahead of others, 3 moderately good players, you may choose to award a 5, three 3s & a 1 (15 points total)
  • if everyone plays poorly in a loss, you may choose to give 1 point to fifteen different players (15 points total).
  • if we have a bad game, and people don't want to give full points totaling 100, then you may award less than a total of 15 votes and say that's all you want to award, in which case the total points awarded to players will be less than the full 100.
After everyone has voted, I'll total the votes and work out a percentage to award the MVG points out of 100 each week.

As usual, each round will have its own thread, and once each round is finalised, this thread will record the running total.

Thanks Giant Strides for your work on this. BTW presume that there’s a typo and it is Tom Green who is the 2nd “Greene” in the above spreadsheet?

OK, I have temporarily got the computer working again, so here's a catch-up of progress scores:

Round 4 Eagles - Hogan's back-to-back MVG vaults him into the lead ahead of Finn:

Round 5 Saints at Gather Round - Greene & Ash have good games to put them co-leaders above Hogan:

Round 6 - defenders to the fore in votes for the Crows loss sees Ash take outright leadership & Taylor pushes into 2nd:

Round 7 - the bad loss to the Dogs sees Ash consolidate 1st, Whitfield push into 2nd, and Taylor rounds out a defenders top 3:

Hi everyone. I said earlier that I was having issues with my computer, and I still am, so I'm (a) behind time and (b) limited in what I can manage to produce.

I'm going to try to upload a periodical snapshot of the progressive points rather than a round-by-round summary.

So, here's the progress ladder after round 10. Callaghan got away to a strong start, had a dip, but then came back strong, while Ash started his scoring in round 3 and got motoring after that. Taylor, Whitfield, Hogan & Green have also scored solidly in the opening 10 rounds, spreading the scoring around the field.

After round 15, the SAME two leaders are still heading the field, but Tom Green has pushed up into striking distance, while Taylor and Hogan remain in the chasing pack. Toby Greene has pushed up to chase while Whitfield has drifted back from the top 5.

Thanks for putting this together. I always love seeing how people score our players throughout the year.

Take your time, but looking forward to seeing how it shapes up in the later rounds.

OK last periodical snapshot of the leader board that I will post until we do the final countdown. Round 20, after the great Swans win, before the Dogs mauled us.

In the 4 rounds played (bye round was present), Callaghan went from strength to strength, with 2 MVGS, a 2nd and a 3rd. Tom Green was no slouch, but only garnered one MVG and a 2nd. Those two are well clear in first and second, with Lachie Ash having a dry spell. Taylor and Whitfield continue to be solid players, while Greene and Hogan are behind them, and Cadman and Jones further back.
