Genuine question, Has he played at a higher level for a sustained period?
All I can recall is him jumping between Div 3 & 4 clubs, but my memory aint too great at the best of times
Played a lot at heathmont. Then headed to south Belgrave. Coldstream for 1 year. Heathmont again. Back to south Belgrave. South Belgrave won promotion to division 1 so he headed to chirnside. Id be very surprised if he’s not in his 40s.

Lower divisions yes. But along with playing 1s cricket still. Can be 5 nights a week training in summer plus a full satday in the field. Tough slog playing both sports these days.

Lower division gun but also a ripper bloke off field. Always sticks around after a game and sits with the opposition.

Boronia still recruiting players for their u19s team. Have not seen this before in local footy where a club who hasn’t had a u19 team for 3 years has basically gone out and recruited a whole team from other clubs mostly from The Basin. Points system needs to be introduced in u19 level to stop this from happening.
A couple of things here. What is Boronia expected to do in order to field a 19’s team, they need players, the players need to come from somewhere. And also has anyone delved into why there is an exodus from the Basin? Also this has been happening forever, it’s not new nor is it revolutionary. I know it’s hard on here for some to accept but clubs don’t own players, in some cases these players are 19.5 yo’s (don’t get me started on this as an age group - ridiculous) they’re adults. Clubs need to be better, get better and that starts with creating an environment that fosters retention. Instead of sooking start looking within.

How about just not approaching other clubs juniors. There’s no excuse for it and indefensible.
You’re questioning why they’re leaving The Basin but aren’t asking why Boronia doesn’t have kids coming through.

Have to disagree, they aren’t juniors, 19’s are part of the senior club and there’s nothing illegal about what Boronia have done. Frankly I don’t care why Boronia don’t have juniors, you’re prob right, they need to do a much better job at having a junior program that supplies kids through, but in this instance they need to get a side up off the ground, they have done that. I’m not sure how they were supposed to do that without getting players from elsewhere. These “kids” are either 18 or just about to turn 18 and coming out of u17.5’s, they’re adults making a decision. They aren’t juniors.

Seriously please. They are coming out of the junior program. Clubs should be better than simply attacking other clubs 18’s.

Clear distinction. They aren’t 18’s. They are 19.5’s coming out of 17.5’s. They are adults and you are right they are exiting the junior program. They are no longer juniors.
don’t pretend like this hasn’t been happening for years either, you can question the morals of it but I’m not sure clubs would or should care. If Boronia are financial enough to provide a side where blokes don’t have to pay then that’s just smart business especially in the current financial climate. Again I ask, why have all these blokes exited the Basin first chance they got?

Some of this I agree with (clubs dont own players/19.5 year olds) but lets just call it for what it is, Boronia are blatantly headhunting another clubs u19s, too scared to even post where they came from in the "signing posts" because everyone knows they've just pinched them from the basin. Obviously don't have the right setup for their own juniors so have resorted to poaching others. Once a few leave and gain momentum its tough to stop.

It’s simple.

It’s bad for the game and the league.

Recruiting juniors and U19s en masse out of a club that has developed them just means they will have issues with seniors down the track.

It’s not rocket science. Juniors become U19s become seniors.

It’s shithouse and while clubs will do what they want, there needs to be things in place to protect the league overall.

And they still say they want 50 clubs.

Going by the players they have recruited they will most likely win the 19s flag. How would you feel as a club winning a premiership knowing that only a handful are from your own junior club. You would feel a bit embarrassed but in saying that no one would really care when the premiership is engraved on the honour board.

Didn’t Mitcham win with 3 home grown players…. Hardly a murmur on this site back then not sure why everyone is up in arms now it’s been happening for a long time. Boronia are a progressive club looking to go into premier. How would everyone feel if they get promoted to premier and have no ‘19’s. They can’t win either way.

I think there was a few posts about Mitcham and the stolen generation from FTG.

Sort their own junior program/system out would be a good start! Ahh, easier to just get some insiders in the basin and take advantage of them.

Couldn’t agree more Bunk Moreland.

The Basin has really worked hard to develop their junior program over many years and it has been very successful with so many junior players moving into senior football, highlighted by 2024 where the club struggled but so many young and home grown players were given the opportunity to play senior football with a view to the future.

Boronia has had a gap in junior players but did need to get an under 19 team in place. With The Basin being relegated the club saw an opportunity to recruit players to the club as they are a club ‘on the up’. I don’t agree with what they have done but they are not the only one to do it over the years. Vermont have been masters over many years in ‘poaching’ junior players and then claiming them as their own.

The Basin have appointed an excellent unders coach again for 2025 and I believe they will have a team again. Their hard work in developing junior players over many years has been exemplary with many players going on to play at higher levels. They have an excellent culture and I see they had a senior camp and the number of young players in attendance was fantastic. I would be confident success for them will not be far away again.

Boronia will again go well and their unders team will do well in 2025 with an excellent structure in place. I just don’t really agree with ‘pillaring’ a club that had a poor year was the right approach.
