Awesome performance from the girls. Loved the look of our midfield - we looked pretty dominant there at many points. Great vibe at the ground too! Obviously hard to gauge how we’ll fare at this stage against the strong teams in the competition (the Pies still very much a work in progress) - but this was definitely an exciting start to our season!

Have to wonder why they were playing Centra forward and not midfield. I read somewhere she's had like 47 disposals before in the juniors, so obviously knows how to find the ball :p Instead gets starved up forward for 3 touches.

Most enjoyable game I’ve seen the women’s team play for a long time, pressure & tacking applied all game was great to watch…

Quicker and better ball movement makes a big difference, girls hands in contests to release teammates into space was a different level, created better quality spread & run…

The big numbers in dropped marks was disapointing, basic level sitters particularly in the first quarter, a lack of polish with some of basic kicking skills need to improve too…

This young team looks to be evolving its style towards the modern way, there’s the beginnings of a good football team which has the nucleus to build on…

Hill back on ball star, Vesicio in defense no brainer, Poppy and Sophie have bright futures ahead of them, Fitzpatrick back is electric, great signs by everyone tonight both by our more mature and the younger players…

Centra has been injured(soft tissue). Was touch and go to play. Probably half rat power last night, will improve and go inside soon enough.

Watched the game on delay last night so was a bit tired to follow in detail but saw a much more dynamic team compared to last year.

Ronnie is electric and provides real pace around the ground.

Mim bursting from stoppages and breaking lines was impressive, I thought she looked slow last year but maybe I’m wrong.

Grunt work around the ball was strong, hard tackling, and some of Abbie’s clearance work was great. Thought her Sherar and mim got us going through the midfield and some of Bree’s taps to mim were top class.

All the backline did well and all had some great moments, thought Darcy showed some class with her kicking and great spoils when in an aerial contest.

I have a real soft spot for Mia up front she is still very young and shows great marking talent and Tara was a very astute pick up as she is draws attention from defenders.

Overall a great start and a much more balanced and dynamic team to last season.

She probably hasn't been mentioned much but I thought Maddy Guerin was good. Probably could have kicked 2-3 goals.
Yes, I forgot to mention Maddie, she is a class act. Tough, skilled and a good runner, she covers a lot of fry and gets to a heap of contests.
To overcome 3 knees is a real testament to her mental toughness and determination.

She had a disrupted pre-season … probably shouldn’t have played last night.
