that's what happens when you play to scrag snipe hold etc. Cripps wasn't in the middle much but when he was you could see how annoyed he was by it. Clarko bringing the thug part of his hawthorn legacy across and none of the successful parts

Yep. He's coaching them like he did the Hawks 100%.

The problem is they don't have the superstars in their prime or the ruthless hardened foot soldiers to play that way.

The game has changed. It's not umpired the way that it used to be. There's no riding the fine line between outright thuggery and just being mongrels at the contest like those teams.

North are awkward, under developed and playing a style that doesn't suit them.

Clarko proving to be very one note. Needs to play his list to its strengths if they're not going to embarrass themselves.

And picked up Harry O'Farrell as part of the process. He's going to take a bit of time but there's a lot to like there.

He's got a bit of time with the form of Jsos.
I think that HoF is going to be paired with Harry Dean to form the next generation defensive pairing. Give it a couple more years and we’ll see them come bolting out of the box.

Was really impressed with Lewis Young today, too.
I've been quite critical of him up until this year but this season he's really starting to believe in himself and just how far he can go and I'm happily eating my own words.
Well done mate, great game today 👏👏👏
Yes me too.

I was very wrong thinking that Pitto was going to be a walk up start for this game, thinking that the move would give TdK more time up forward because Young is not as good as him up there.

I was very impressed by Young’s performance, his effort to stand his ground, play team oriented footy and tackle when needed was great.

He did seem to gain some confidence and when in the ruck was steady (no idea on clearance stats).

He should make way for H next week because Harry is a real handful but it’s great to know that Young can fill the role admirably.

Well done Youngy!!!!

Says weitering to Saad on the bench
You might be right about the lip reading but Saady may have asked Weiters a question such as “what did the docs take you to the change rooms to check?”
Or any number of questions that Weiters would have replied PCL.

The vision was pretty clear that he got a knee into his shin, I guess that doesn’t categorically rule out a knee issue with jarring or something.

Anyway I am now just going to play mute so as not to invoke the wrath of those who should not be named!!!!!

Yes both the Roos and the Eagles are poor teams, but beating North in as comprehensive a manner as that will do wonders for the players confidence levels.

There's still a pulse there this team is still showing some signs of life in it! Things are going to get considerably tougher though from next week onwards.

The next couple of weeks are going to give us a better idea where this team is really at, but i was happy to take any sort of scrappy win so to blow the Roos out of the water like that was very pleasing indeed.

It's just always nice to see Carlton dispense a beating like that to teams, especially when the Roos probably thought that we were vulnerable beforehand as well.

Thought Young was much more confident than in previous outings.

The small forwards have matured - if Motlop and Durdin now have AFL-ready bodies, our forward line is nicely balanced.

Happy to say I’m a dumb **** for suggesting Cotts as sub.

Just need Boyd hitting form and making a return and we’ll be better again.

Carrol will play every game from here you’d think.
that we kept durdin says it all..
motlop been busy most games this year...he tries very hard
will it click into place for him efficiency wise.......hard to say

Didn't even have ice on his knee, can't imagine its anything serious. Thought it looked like he was speaking to the Doctor about going back on and the Doc basically said is there any point in you going out there the games already over and Weiters agreed and kicked up his feet for the rest of the game
Yes rest him
They rested a few in late final term

We really need to beat someone other than Eagles or North, but good signs.

Carroll has been a great addition to the side, we really needed a lefty with kicking skills.
White - Loved his work again, gave off a goal or two as well.
Motlop - Have to give him credit this week, really put in the hard work and was rewarded for his efforts.
Hewett is currently our most inform player, having a great year and should be leading our BnF.
JSOS - My god the shift to the D50 has been an inspired move, just looks at home and is only going to get better.

A lot happier with our front half pressure this week, that really set up the win.
These are important players who have all lifted against weak opponents pls add Lord as well
JSSOS was always good....in defense looks even a bit better he's a lock after being on the fringe for some reason.
White looks a steal....has composure
Lord...looks OK........better than P.Dow ?.....a bit better but needs to mature .obviously he's very young!
Motlop really trying hard...going for a lot of contests....he fast and strong,if he could improve efficiency could improve.
He also seems too heavy for his role..bit clumsy plus he needs more coaching to get him effective...determination definitely there

Its weird...this games excellent tackle pressure v north was noted early in game and eventually pressured them out of the game to the extent they lost structure at time......scary !
However last week v Eagles was poor
Looks like the heads really did the homework on north !

The performance of our small forwards was the biggest positive of this game. All bought into the pressure game and almost all got rewarded on the scoreboard. Williams 4, Motlop 4, White 3, Durdin 2. 13 combined goals from our small forwards, can’t remember the last time that happened - maybe the Betts, Garlett and Yarran era.

Nope. He did some good things no doubt, but to my eyes at the ground on the real contest and one on one in the ruck he didn’t look like he was overly smashing Xerri. He looked ok around the ground, kicked a good goal and took a good mark. When I looked at the stats at the end and he ended with 11 possessions and 50% of the hit outs Xerri had it kind of made sense. I though it was that our mids were so hungry today, we were able to win clearance off their tap or win it back through tackle. This was the most impressive thing today, and all with smaller performances from Crippa and Walshy.

Maybe my lens is skewed because he’s basically touted as a +$1mil footballer right now and I don’t see it yet. He’s done good things in other games too and maybe he’s building up to something but it’s still just glimpses for me. Sorry if that’s an opinion against the general flow. But there you go. Carry on.
you're looking at a whole different swag of questions now.

your original comment suggested Xerri gave TDK a decent touch up - I'd suggest that is not what the majority of punters and experts would say... frankly, I thought Xerri had very little influence on the game, even if some of his stats look good....

Is he worth $1.1m or $1.7m - I'm with you on this one.... early days still for Tom though, but, at least, now in 2025:

1. he does clunk his marks way more often than not;
2. he's using his weight to advantage;
3. his 2nd efforts as a de facto mid, are very much elite - I think of Gawn at his best;
4. Some of his ruck work - when he gets the timing on his jump right is exquisite;
4. he can kick goals.

Yes, CFC or STK or whomever will be paying for a bit of potential, for sure, but that's the norm for any player.

Made a great little coffee on the DeLonghi magnifica S, and about to watch a whole game replay.
Been a long time.
😊🐎💙

NOt enough love for Haynes.

Curtis would be a great pick up.

Loved the prayer hands between Charlie and Cerra all day. Good to see our small forwards work to help Charlie.
