... Cripps at his best is much more than just an inside midfielder, and while the game has changed they tinker with the rules an awful lot. Who's to say they don't change them to a status quo that suits him a bit more?

It'd be awfully like the AFL, though, to change the rules to favour massive inside mids whilst we have Murphy, then change them to suit endurance and skill when we have Cripps only to change them again once we get Jagga.

Is he? How

I honestly don't see it and although the AFL may well tinker agin with rules I just can't see them doing things to slow the game down

I don't want to sound critical of Cripps as he will go down as a Carlton great but IMO circumstances are now against him unless the Coach really changes things to help

Even if we turned this around, he's a horrible kick for goal & completely unreliable. It's basically a wasted shot at goal when he marks within 50m.

Yeah wouldn't say I'm confident when he's having a set shot but then I'm exactly the same about Harry. Tbh I'd only trust Haywood, Ainsworth, Moir, F Young, E Hols, Cotts and perhaps Frank and maybe Gov.

Our Key forward stocks are not great if you're looking for presence, mongrel and consistency in front of goal.

Like some others I wonder if him playing mid has ever really been explored by Voss because yes at 7 years (5years in reality given he came in with an acl and the achilles) in the system he's largely been an under performer (not alone but still a valid assessment)

2019, 2022, 2024: Patrick Cripps won the Leigh Matthews medal and his two Brownlows. In those years, he kicked 13, 20 and 17 goals (50 goals across 65 games for a 0.77 goal average). Across his entire career, Cripps has averaged 0.5 goals per game.

He's probably not going to be putting up full forward figures, but at his very best Cripps was a hybrid midfielder/small forward despite his size.

I don't disagree at all here. He's not being helped by the coaching regime, and at least part of the dropoff in his game is because I think he knows that.

I understand but that was a while ago and the game was very different. They aren't exactly big numbers for a gun in his prime

I hope I am wrong but I think he will struggle. The only way I can see him doing well is if Voss changes the midfield mix to assist him

The rule changes the AFL have brought in and the direction of the game, has now opened up some strong concerns around the balance of our list imo.
Been caught out a little here in this space. Hopefully we can right the ship fairly quickly.

Agree. Our list is definitely lacking class BUT I still don't believe we develop or use it right

IMO Voss picks names and types he wants or favours. He doesn't pick a side to play the modern way

He needs to go in HARD by himself and either handball or smash the ball to the outside players like a ****ing battering ram. Our whole ****ing team should be smashing the ball forward and running onto it. Only Cripps and maybe one other into the ball, the others on the outside. But he loves taking posession and slowly stopping and looking around. no good at all these days that style

Cripp's 1 wood is this, at the contest get the ball and dish it accurately to a outside runner.
Contested ball is still relevant in to days game. Which means he is still relevant.
It is the outside running that has come to the fore as the main weapon. This is where we have to cement grease our list.
Cripps just has to make that small mental adjustment to being the distributor not the game winner.

Part of where Voss has not done his job over 5 seasons is to limit Cripps to dish it out. The whole club mistakenly have encouraged him to be 'also' outside creator and distributor + chief of inside 50 kicks. This has frustrated me no end. At times they have even nominated other forwards to do his defensive running unbalancing the team.

It's clear he isnt a Dusty Martin.

It's hard watching the failure of the MC and their distinct lack of 1) tactical nous and 2) strength of character to pull Cripps back to a limited role.

Pretty sure he won 2 Brownlows under Voss

I don't think you understand how long development takes. It doesn't happen overnight. Most times it takes half a season to start to see consistent results. The coach has more than one plan, and I will say this again.....................fans only notice when a plan works and not when it is attempted. We are trying a new running game, as evident in the first half of the games. We have leaders; every team does. Winning doesn't make you a good or bad leader. Leaders don't always get wins.
Abd that running game is slow and predictable. Voss can not coach

Like the optimism, but didn't the captain of the Titanic say that after he hit an ice berg

Im glad Bartel agrees with my comments made about hwo Brisbane found a way to beat Carlton in hit outs by just hitting out in the 23 pre-lim this was a set up obviousness that any coach coudl pick up on immediately IF they ere actually watchign the game instead of the bench...whcih begs teh quesiton - wtf is Hansen et al doing ...
Similarly - Bartel talks about too much disatnce between contest and defense- an dalludes to nto snmart footnballers- - sad to say that not smart footballers from leders ha been a curse nwo for a few years...

COudl care less what Docherty has to say abotu Carlton. anyone actuallhy familiar wiith why he was the first to be tapped on teh shoudler by Wright to leave - woudl know - then again not mny insders on here are ...they re too busy listenign to;whisperrer' palyers who quoite fankly habve no idea hat si going on...
Been talking about too much distance between lines for us for ages. Our lines are fewer and deep kicks distance apart. The suck in thing happened an awful lot yet again last night.... Maybe they feel they have to because half the team can't stick a tackle. Who tf knows

He signs off on the appointments, yes.

Does he allocate the FTE/money to the coaching unit, no.
So you know that we are at capacity. He wasn't offered more? Or you know that his salary isn't so huge they can't afford more ? You are directly implying it's one thing not the other despite the fact that when both cook and Gw took over they both Made it a focus to beef up the footy Dept. So is Voss just a passenger then. Just letting things drift... or...? Pretty sure he's just a victim of don't ask never find out. The assistant shake up didnt come from him

No one of note is going to come to a Club full of supporters that wnat a coach sacked when every tom dick ahd harry knwos the list is bog ordinary
