Axel has come from the clouds to debut in the final round vs North. He’ll be the 256th Eagle, the third Luke (after Shuey and Partington), the seventh in the number 29 (after Lycett, Hansen, Donnelly, Spinks, Ball and Higgins) and by my count the 32nd Subiaco product.

Have the pleasure of sponsoring Luke for the 2022 season.

Will be interesting to watch his development as he enters his fourth AFL season, and to what extent he can build upon his seven career games thus far.

Foles has been named in tomorrow’s practice match against Freo.

Not that much of an achievement considering it looks like every player fit and available has been named, but still a chance for him to impress.

No Sheppard or Cole for Round 1 and Duggan in doubt, he’d be wanting to press his case to fill one of those spots.

Round 1 vs Gold Coast - 24 disposals @ 63%, 8 marks, 6 intercepts, 5 score involvements, 4 spoils, 3 tackles

A brilliant game to open the season from Foles, probably the best of his short career so far. Equal fifth-most disposals on the ground and once again showed off his composure and ball use out of defence - took a couple of really nice grabs under pressure. Needed small/medium defenders like him to step up today and he did. Not only was he strong offensively, defensively he looked pretty sound too.

Should definitely keep his spot in the side for the next month or so with Cole out and Duggan still a couple of weeks away, and hopefully the extended run of games allows him to cement his spot in the team.
From the things we've seen from Foley so far in his career, I think it's safe to say this guy is a keeper.

Havinga great year so far, no way he goes out of the team

Well, my debut year of player sponsorship didn’t go too well. Got busy with a lot of things and sort of forgot about the sponsorship after that strong performance in round 1.

Despite many labelling him “vanilla” and doubting his ability to earn a new contract beyond 2023, Foley actually had his best season to date this year.

He played 16 games (up from 6 in 2021 and 1 in 2020), averaging 13 disposals, 4 marks and 3 tackles. He played mostly as a half-back, where he would’ve learned a lot playing on the likes of Izak Rankine and other dangerous smalls, with plenty of ball coming inside the back 50.

There was a weird stint as a defensive half-forward for him as well during the second half of the season, which saw him kick a goal against the Blues in round 17. Fortunately though, this experiment ended quickly and he returned to his natural position in defence for the last few weeks of the season.

Looking ahead, Foley’s goal for 2023 will be to establish himself as a consistent best 22 player. With the addition of Jayden Hunt and the return of Tommy Cole, there is a bit more competition for spots in the backline now, so he’s got his work cut out for him.

Been a pleasure sponsoring Foles, I hope he tears it up in 2023.
