Carlton has selected Alison Downie with pick 129 in the AFL Women’s draft.

Hailing from Diamond Creek, Downie has been playing top-level football for the last five years.

The code-swapper made the VFL Women’s ‘Team of the Year’ this season after performing strongly in the ruck.

Interestingly, the 32-year-old played 326 games for the Dandenong Rangers in the WNBL.

What a great gal! Really solid citizen and will be missed around the club.
To have played every game is an excellent achievement.
Bit sad............ Ive been hoping for a while she would do a bit of ruck work with McKay in the middle so we could see some 'Downie to abbie'.

Strange to have let her go for nothing only for her to be signed up by a team better placed than us in Collingwood.

I think we were pretty happy with what Gibbs offered towards the end of the season. She's basically Downie's heir apparent.
