Will Mitchell Burgoyne & Hodge play 300 ??

Player Milestones next year all going well

Duryea 50
Whitecross 100
Birchall 200
Smith 100
Lake 250 ??
Gunston 100
Bruest 100
Stratton 100
Puopolo 100
Simpkin 50 ??
Rioli 150

Burgoyne and Mitchell might just get there if they can play beyond 2015 and Hodge will need to play for at least another three years for him to get to 300.

Players like Roughead, Lewis and Birchall could all get there given their durability.

Jarryd Roughead: 207 games Jordan Lewis: 217 games
Grant Birchall: 194 games

You read my mind. I had been discussing this exact topic with Hawks mate of mine this morning. More specifically Hodgey.

I reckon the three can with of course a bit of injury luck going there way. I don't think form or retirement will be an issue for any of the three.

Sammy and Burgs I reckon will get there - need two seasons effectively and I think they are durable enough to last that long.
Hodgey has been relatively injury free last two seasons but is potentially more susceptible to injury so a slight question mark hanging over him maybe.
Wouldn't it be great if they all got 300 in same season.

Duckwood was 85-15 after first 100
Smith could equal that if he only played in wins for his next 14 games Poppy and Punky already have 16 losses
Hill on 43-8 could theoretically beat Duckwood at the 100 mark but its a hard ask

Looking at that list. you see how great 1969 was for our club,. Matthews and Knights, two of the greats of the game joining the club in the same year. The figures also show just how injuries affected Knights tally of games, 68 behind Matthews, and bear in mind Leigh had to sit out more than a few due ti minute indiscretions.

Very happy to be a Hawk during that great period.

Birchall is well on his way to smashing through the 300 game mark.

If the club can stick to its goal of finishing top 4 every year then that's a minimum of 2 extra games per season.

Too right Thaihawk....Still my number 1 & 2 at Hawthorn & by a fair margin....Cyril & Buddy may be more exciting to watch; but for pure match winning ability with the ball on the ground (Barney) & in the air (The Boy), then Matthews & Knights have no peer in VFL/AFL history!

Knights dominated the air the same way Matthews dominated when the ball was on the ground!....I didn't mind Barassi beating out olde 'Friar Tuck' for the team of the century Ruck Rover position; but putting Ted Whitten at center half back ahead of Knights was one big, huge, colossal joke!...Whitten's reputation was founded upon the fact he was a 'thug', plain & simple & was why no one would not go near him....As a footballer he could not even lick Knightsy's boot-laces!

Have to agree with all but one thing you say procrastinator, and that's that IMO there has been no more exciting player in the AFL or VFL than Peter Knights. They talk about swing players today, well back in the 70s Peter Knights plated that role better than anyone I have seen. He is still my favourite Hawk, so I am a little biased.

Its pleasing to see the modern hawks impacting the HFC records. Will be interesting to see the updated AFL/VFL team of the century in 2025.

True that....I was there in 1985 at Princess Park when a tired & broken down old hack by the name of Peter Knights kicked a lazy 9 on the supposed full-back of the century in SOS....Gave the kid a footballing lesson, the likes of which he never saw again in terms of aerial prowess!

Knights would have shit 300 games in if not for the horrific injury toll exacted on his body when coming down from such dizzying heights....These kids today have no idea what true high marking & aerial ability is.....The fact that Howe from Melbourne is held up as it's current best exponent, pretty much says it all really!

Burgoyne 32 - 269 games (2 seasons, possibly?)
Mitchell 32 - 261 games (2 seasons possibly?)
Hodge 30 - 250 games (3 seasons possibly?)
Lewis (29 at start of 2015) - 217 (4-5 seasons possibly?)
Roughead 28 - 207 games (4-5 seasons possibly?)
Birchall 27 - 194 games (5 seasons possibly?)

Burgoyne and Mitchell would have to play on until they are 34

Hodge and Lewis would have to play on until they are 33

Roughead and Birchall would have to play on until they are 32

As the most successful club since 1925 (with 12 or more cups next to our name) it would be a disgrace if Hawthorn didn't dominate the 1925 - 2025 team...

Well, if Healy has anything to do with the selection process, then don't hold your breath!o_O

Funny that you mention Howe, as he is the closest to Knights that I have seen. Of course there is the odd "mark of the year" taken by several players, but Knights was capable of that two or three times a game! - every week! We are very lucky to be Hawthorn supporters.

Suspect Joel Selwood has him well covered

Of players playing more than 50 games Bradley Hill is the 3rd highest of all time (84.31%)
The highest 100 game player is travis Varcoe at 79.89%
Joel Selwood is at 72.53%
Paul Puopolo is at 81.82%
