AFL Club
Richmond
Matt-White2-216x300.jpg As one of the fittest and fastest players in the AFL Matt is preparing himself for a big 2013 campaign and is ready to re-establish himself as a regular in the Richmond side.

Matt was selected by Richmond with pick 5 in the 2006 Pre-Season Draft. He made his debut in round 10 of the 2006 season against Fremantle and went on to play 11 games in his first season.

He established himself in the Richmond side in the following years with his ability to play a number of roles including small defender, midfield run with player and small forward. Injuries and lack of opportunity limited Matt to only 7 games in 2012.

Q: Which Junior Clubs did you play for and what was the highlight of your junior career?

A: I played for Sunbury Lions as a junior and then Calder Cannons in the under 18’s. The highlight for me was definitely winning the 2005 premiership with the Calder Cannons on the MCG.

Q: Who was your AFL Idol as a kid and why?

A: Robert Harvey. He was a hard strong midfielder who worked really hard to get the most out of his footy and he was just a really good player.

Q: What were you doing on the day you got drafted?

A: I was sitting on the couch watching kids TV. I was picked in the Pre-Season draft so it wasn’t on the radio. My dad saw it on the internet and came in and told me about it.

Q: What has been the highlight of your AFL career so far?

A: My three bounce goal against Fremantle in 2012. It was the best goal I’ve ever kicked.

Q: What are some of your interests outside of football?

A: I love my golf. I play off an 18 Handicap and I play at Goonawarra Golf Club which is out near Sunbury. I also like to go mountain riding and dirt bike riding when I can.

Q: If you weren’t playing football what would you be doing for a job?

A: I’d probably be a plumber.

What did every one think of his game yesterday?

For me he played OK but needs to step it up for a permanent spot. Looks to be a good depth player atm.

This is his make or break year I think. He has a had solid NAB cup where people have taken notice. He is one of my favourite players down at Tigerland and not just because we are related.
