Player Watch #36: Tyler Sellers

I'm not sure what Tyler is being told by the coaching staff but he really needs to get on his bike and lead, lead, lead! Larkey gave him the perfect block at one point and he should have taken off immediately but he didn't.

He's not getting involved in the play because he's not involving himself enough in the play. He spent most of his time hanging out the back and when the ball was kicked long in to our forward line, he was always competing for the mark 4 or 5 deep.

Often when he does look like he's going to lead, he takes 3 or 4 steps then aborts. Doesn't commit to it.

He needs to be micro-managed on his forward craft. I think there's a player there but he just hasn't worked out how to get involved.
Bizarrely he leads more when he is in the twos and there is no other big forward. He competed with Larkey 100% of the time as did Curtis for that matter. The only one who got out and made themselves a target was Zurhaar occasionally. There should be 4 targets for a player with the ball. How in the #### are they all flying for the same ball ? Why are Sellers etc not taking players away from Larkey at the very least. Just abominable. Finnbar is raw as onions but has a better leap, runs harder, competes better and has enthusiasm. If we are going to have blokes compete for the same ball he at least will split a pack and maybe, just maybe someone will learn to crumb. Look at you P Curtis. And I know Finnbar isnt ready. Man it's frustrating.

The best analogy for playing in this side, is it’s like rocking up to your first day of work, no induction and the team you work in is made up of people with less than a weeks experience or people that either are useless or don’t give a ****.

Imagine trying to integrate yourself into a new job under those circumstances.

Unless the coaches said not to lead, this is absolute crap. Play your natural game and try and make a difference. Being new gives him the unique advantage of not learning the bad habits everyone else has. He has been terrible.

They are told to play to instructions. Unless you are an out and out superstar players aren’t given the licence to go rogue and do what they want.

****ed if I know what his instructions were, but I’m sure he didn’t just wake up and think it might be a good idea to ignore coaches instructions and do whatever he felt like.

You also have to remember at AFL level he isn’t the No.1 Banana which would be foreign to him given he’s the go to guy VFL level.

This would be such a shit team to try and adapt and learn in.

Can we delist and free up a spot in the MSD? 1 disposal at VFL level today. Absolutely embarrassing.
A real tragedy thought he would be an AFL player but the Geelong game killed him as a footballer even now back at VFL level not the same player unfortunately think he be gone at season end .
A modern day version of Rod Trengena

Teams have vision on him now. His flaws were made clear so early on.

that's why i said debuting him in the geelong game was the worst to haapen

Tregenza was an absolute goal machine at state level.

Recall him kicking 9 or 10 for the Murray Roos.

Sellers is carrying an injury at the moment which is robbing him of some of his movement. If you watched the game yesterday you could see he was labouring big time.

None of the forwards yesterday had much of an impact considering our disposal inside 50 was deplorable.

This goes further back then yesterdays game. He was appalling at AFL level and hasn’t had a kick in the VFL in 4 weeks. He is miles off the levels required and is clearly not going to be the answer.

Enough is enough, stop carrying guys and clogging up spots.

You seem to be under the impression that we can delist players mid-season. We have no choice but to carry the players we have on the list at least until the end of the season.

Larkey didn't kick a goal until his 3rd game, 18 months after his debut

just sayin'

Sellers was the freest of free hits. Didn't cost us a draft pick, didn't cost any trade capital and is on the minimum wage for a footballer. If we didn't sign him, the spot would simply have been left vacant. If he doesn't work out, so be it. But it's worth a shot.

But even more than that, signing one of our own VFL players encourages those with AFL aspirations to do the same as he did. If you play VFL for NMFC and do well enough, well, here's your shot at a spot on the main list. Doing that a few times will help recruitment and strengthen the VFL and that helps the AFL program because the seconds will be playing at a higher level.

There is literally 6-8 players in our senior side who are clogging the list far worse than this bloke.

Larkey was appalling on the weekend, should we delist him? Maley has been poor over the last month, do we cut him too?

Sellers was one of the best VFL forwards last year, trained with us all summer and did enough to earn a spot. He just turned 21 and is still learning what it takes to be an AFL footballer.

There are way bigger issues than this bloke at the moment.

chill

Every club has players with a degree of development required to make it. Most of them won't debut.

We just so happen to have them playing in the 1s and VFL because we literally have no one else. Our list is shite.

Remember, back in the 80s, had australian cricket not been the basketcase it was, steve waught would've never gotten into the test side and the rest we say, is history.
