I think we might be seeing more evidence of a theory I, and I know a few others, have suggested - that the current senior cohort aren't the ones who will get us to our next flag, but they are the necessary foundation for the group who will.

McKay and Curnow are elite on their day, but cost a bomb and can't do it all themselves. Being able to develop HOK in the ressies for a few years, and then have him transition into the senior side as second fiddle to one of McKay and Curnow in any given week, is fantastic for his development. Better for sure than if he'd been recruited at the start of the rebuild and thrown straight into a senior side getting belted every week.

I reckon he's got a fantastic mix of talent and aggression, and seems a very self-assured young man who is comfortable in himself. All bodes very well for his prospects this year and into the future.
Harry Lemmey might be another if reports from the VFL in the last couple of weeks are anything to go by

From all reports Lemmey has the skill but not the intensity to make it.
He's definitely improving. Thought it was his most complete game on the weekend. Does go to ground too easily and needs to work on his strength one on one. He's a great runner, strong on the lead and a beautiful kick so he does have some attributes to work with.

When the 1st pre-season training videos came out, Hudson was literally the 1st one I saw and went, Wow, who's that? Yes, I went and looked him up.
Anyway, I'm certain I wasn't the only one.at the time that commented on him.

His size and mobility is what impressed me most. Moved very well for a big guy.
Add to that sure hands, an obvious aerial ability, self-assured and a fierce competitiveness, which is what I think I read or heard about him, and you have a lot of the ingredients for a future star.

Very, very, impressive debut, which indicates to me that he doesn't get overawed easily. Love that.

The kid looks the goods, taking 5 contested marks in your first game in front of a packed MCG is a big deal.
I love how he flys full chested for his marks, he has the swagger and confidence, only wish he nailed that set shot in the 4th quarter, the crowd would have gone berserk

First time I’ve properly watched this kid. Like him a lot
I’ve watched a few VFL games with him playing the back up ruck to Mirkov or Pitto. Usually has a good kick on him. Might have been the nerves of playing on the G.

We just need to make sure we nuture their development instead of halting it and wondering "what if"
Give O’Farrell and Dean a good spell in the VFL to learn how to work together as a defensive pairing. Give them both runs in the seniors so the club can see what they need to do to keep improving and be ready for AFL football.

HOK is a ruckman who can go forward to rest. He won’t be playing second fiddle to Charlie or Harry. He’ll be playing second fiddle to TDK if he stays.

I like this kid. Dont mind the brain fades..he'll learn from it and continue to improve.
And he’ll learn to kick through the ball properly instead of leaning back like he did.

His marking is the thing that has really improved, wasn’t a standout part of his his game before and once we drafted him, makes him a far better rounded player…

He had a picture of the MCG set as his phone lock screen for the past four years as a way of manifesting an AFL career.

Now that he's made it to the top level, he said he might change his lock screen to a premiership cup.

I like it. I like it a lot.

While it was a great debut we need to remember that he was playing on a guy 5 inches shorter. Will be interesting to see how he goes on the young WC defenders who are showing a bit in the last few weeks.

Missed when he defensively outmarked Peter Wright? Or chased down Andrew McGrath?

No doubt he’ll get better direct opposition when playing forward, just an observation from watching his progress throughout his time with us since being drafted

They thought he was going to be overwhelmed by the occasion. He got over 50 games in the VFL, so despite it being his AFL debut, he brings some experience.

Great debut. Has a strange technique of marking the ball. Sort of crossed arm chest mark at shoulder level. Seemed to work against his smaller opponent. WC will be a good test against young defenders that seemed to do well on the weekend.
I think that was him adjusting to having the lights in his eyes while going for a grab. Much cleaner in the VFL.
